Anime! How were you introduced to anime, and why do you think you like it so much? I just became obsessed with Sailormoon, and then went on to better things. ( bigger story than that, but nyeh) Lets hear yours! yatta!

Well it all started when I was but a young, YOUNG laddy, and Global had Astroboy, Transformers, and other channels had Speed Racer, and every now and then I'd see just a snippet of Robotech. After that it largely dissapeared..

While I saw snippets and such of anime every now and then it was never long enough to spark anything.

Then, in 98, I saw Macross Plus.

And the Anime Freak in me was reborn.

I became obsessed ever since I was three years old, watching either Miyazaki's "Laputa"/"Nausicaa"/"Totoro" or Doraemon, then Sailor Moon comes next XD

Hmm, let's see. Wasn't there a thread on this before? "What was your first anime?" Ah well, it might be dead and buried, or will be melded into this thread as well.

I believe the first anime that I knew was anime that I watched was Ronin Warriors. I said so as much in the other thread. But, now that I think about it, I watched Kimagure Orange Road before that. So, it was probably that.

Then came Sailor Moon, then Samurai Pizza Cats...however, between those two, I founded my super-favorite...Ranma! Hehehe...:D Wait...was it before, or after?

Anyway, I also watched Robotech when I was a wee lad....but I didn't know it was anime, so I don't count it.

Hmm, why do I love anime? Simple, it looks better than a lot of american cartoons. And some, if not all, is made with an end in mind. American cartoons only end when the big wigs take it off the air. Ever notice how Power Rangers Seasons end, but Batman the Animated Series and Spiederman didn't? I hate that. That sucks. Why? Well, easy, because anime/japanese series, has an end in mind. It's nice like that. Closure (at least SOME closure) is better than a cut-off. Well, that, and japanese animated girls tend to look a lot better...and the style is better...the effects are simple yet good....oh, and they're more adult oriented than the ones here. I mean, Cardcaptor Sakura to Rainbow Brite? Almost the same age bracket, but...CCS is CLAMP...and if you know what CLAMP does... Well, there are more reasons, but it's hard typing lying down. :D

Well, it wasn't anything specific for me. I was just talking to a friend of mine and somehow it came up that he had Akira on video, so I asked for a lend of it. I did so, and got Blood: The Last Vampire too. Then I just started watching stuff on TV, but not too religiously(bad editing, bad). Then I joined here, oredered my SMJ DVDs, and started downloading stuff.

I think the first anime I watched was Speed Racer! XD But I didn't know what anime was, I found out when, I think, I was in the first grade my friend told me about Sailor Moon. :glazed: I REALLY got into anime after that. lol. I think I like it so much because it was, well DIFFERENT from alot of chiledrens' American cartoons. Same with the comics, its called manga, witch means whimsicle (sp?) drawings, or something like that... :anime:

ok, im gonna sound like a cheep-skate, but dont blame me. :p.
ok, well, when i was about ten, we went to some amusment park and had gotten a show-bag. inside was a voucher for either blockbuster or video ezy, and you could borrow any video, every day for 1 week. my brother had one too.
so we went, and while my bro was looking at little kid shows, i decided it was my time in life to start watching stuff better than kiddie cartoons, so i borrowed "aliens". scared me staight back to cartoons. i then was looking in the cartoon section, for, like inspector gadget or something, then i saw evangelion. im like, "what the hell is this?", but seeing as it was free and there were no more "inspector gadgets", i got it, liked it and got as much of the series as i had remaining free on my voucher thing. tho this very day i have only watched evangelion to a couple episodes after asuka moves in with shinji.

Since I was 2-3 years old I think my first anime was Chibi Maruko, or Doraemon. Then I saw Sailormoon R when my mom's friends kids where over at my gradparents house at Japan, when I was 4-5. And the first time I saw DBZ was when I was I think 5-7 with a guy from church. That's some I can recall... :)

The first anime shows that I had ever seen were those Bible story shows . . .i think they're called Wonderbook and Flying House or something? Anyway, I didn't like them but I would see them every once and a while on TV when nothing else was on. I don't remember how young I was . . . maybe six or seven. I didn't know it was anime at the time . . . the same goes for Speed Racer and Ronin Warriors. The first show I ever saw *knowing* that it was anime was Project A-ko: versus battles (I don't remember the actual name, they're just the A-ko OVAs) on the Sci-Fi channel's Saturday Anime, around sixth or seventh grade. Then I watched Roujin Z, Kasshan: Robot Hunter, Record of Lodoss War (the OVAs) and some other anime that the Sci-Fi channel would show.

From there, I began to rent anime from local videostores. And then I was hooked for life!!

Why do I like anime? For the same reasons I like any normal TV Show or movie - it has characters that I like and a decent plot. I like the not-so-run-of-the-mill shows (I really like X-files), so there is a lot of anime that appeals to me. Unfortunately, the opposite is true, since there is a ton of anime that SUCKS.

Dragonball Z was never really an "intro anime" for me, like it is for a lot of Americans. I watched some of it in the beginning, but after the Frieza saga I just gave up. It wasn't entertaining to me.

Odin, he be a man who only watches *classy* anime. :D heh, anime, you could say, is like fine wine. Gets better with age, and the ones you like best are classic. Egg salad. This is interesting to see everyone's anime roots, plz continue guys. ^^

You're right, K0ge, that anime is like fine wine. Unfortunately, this gives me a lot of bias against really *new* anime, and my brother has to counterbalance me and get me into newer stuff. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't love Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, Macross Plus, Jin Roh, nor Crest of the Stars.

I guess I like things more if they have stood the test of time.

I'm watching Fruits Basket tonight. I hope I like it. ^_^
