All the reviews I've seen for the region 1 Bebop DVD's say the visuals are superb.

I seem to get a load of line noise and rainbowing throughout the series. The deck of the bebop really seems to suffer when you see it from long distances. It's not too much of a bother but it's still a but distracting at times.

It seems strange that I'm the only one to comment on this.
I don't have trouble this bad with 99% of my discs.

hmm.. I'm not sure but it might be your DVD player. When I player Bebop on my standalone DVD player I didn't really notice any of the problems you mentioned but when I tried it on my PS2(with DVD Region X player I just got) it was the first thing that caught my attention. You might try it on another DVD player or, if your using your PC, a different player.

I've always used my standalone player due to problems with the DVD drive on my PC.
Since every other DVD I watch on that player is generally fine, without problems such as these being widespread, I doubt it's to blame.

Since I started reading reviews on animeondvd.com i've probably become more aware of these types of problems. I paid no attention to them the 1st 4 times I went through the series.

do you have your dvd player hooked up to go through your vdr? if you do that's your prob. see, they put copy-right protection on the discs...and well, you just got a good look at it. tho, it doesn't always act up...my ps2 runs through the vcr, and i've only seen that happen on my copy of from hell...but, you can always try that if that's how it's set up

Nope, the DVD player goes straight to the TV using a scart lead.
