if I interpidid your question right.... Rei is sorta an alien
Rei's orgins are from Lilith, the second angel, and Ikari Yui. Rei is a mix of them.

Yes...and no. See, the Angels obviously come from somewhere from beyond our bounds. With the exception of Kaworu and the Angel that attacks the computer virii, they all seem to be from SOMEWHERE. Lilith, the second Angel, is no different.

However, Rei is actually a mix, like Alpha says. Rei is in Yui Ikari's body, pulled among dozens of others when she disappeared into Eva-01. Lilith's soul was inserted into the body, but the reasons for the exact purpose eludes me at this moment. It might have something to do with Gendo wanting to control the Instrumentality Project.

Oh. Yes, technically, she is a *sort* of alien. Not fully, as the body is especially human. But, technically an alien all the same. ^_^

This actually brings up a good point, where do the angels come from? IF there aliens how are Selee controlling the timetable that’s referred to by Gendo and the committee?

Tbh I think that the angels where being held by selee, or something like that.

Well, if I'm not mistaken, the reason you thought she was an alien is because she's kinda funny lookin. That's because she's an albino(pale skin, white haid, red eyes), most likely caused by lilith's genes. Jup.

I'd say they just appeared, with the exception of Kaworu. Like, just started, in a way that...y'know...magic. Why? Well, if you base it off biblicality, like you're not really supposed to, I think they come as the plagues do. Sudden and fiercely. That said...yeah.

Basically according to the whole biblical side Adam & Lilith were created by god... yet according to the NGE side Lilith gave birth to Adam... most confusing, let alone where the rest of the angels came from.

Yeah - what an awful way to mix up religions. Perhaps they thought of it that way?

"Look, let's mix up as many religions as we can so people will get confused and they'll watch the series over and over to try to decipher them . In the meantime we'll earn more money!"

*shrugs* who knows. But I think that was their intent. How evil.

That's just stupid. Anno, the producer of the series, said so himself that the symbolism is there to just attract people and connect with people in a deep level. They're not exactly meant to be fully deciphered in the grand scheme of things, just as the legends they're presented as. Let me put it this way, if Evangelion didn't have all the symbolism in it, then it wouldn't be as cerebral, and it would just be another giant mecha show. Fortunately, it's a lot more than that.

Sorreh, reflecting, that just sounded mean. What I'm trying to say is that the symbolism is there for just the reason to be hard-hitting and powerful to those who watch it. It's not EXACTLY sacriligious to the Christian fate...but then again, EoE is. And also, I don't know if Christianity is major in Japan, but, if it isn't, then it's easier to watch that kind of stuff in an objective fashion, right?

If you take out the "Thats just stupid" part then it wont sound mean... anyways, I guess thats what happens when you are part of that damn religeon (I thought i got all of it out of my system for i no longer beleive in christianity... apparently not) But mistakes happen all the time when roughly taking a religeous theme & trying to put it into a story line... only example i know of is that movie "Stargate" one of my friends cursed it up & down because it was full of inacurate data & she's quite into the whole Egyptian thing.

Errr...Anubis, dude, she's part human. Which is why she looks so much like Yui. There has to be human in some part of her, otherwise, she'd be setting off every blue-code alarm in NERV.

Rrrrright... seeing that the "angels" are different humans that rejected human form (From the Misato's "We are the 18th angel" speech in Rebirth)... so technically they are still from earth (adam & Lilith first humans being created by "god") putting that into consideration... The Yui side of her is definetly human... so Yui + "Angel" = a thing with earth origin & therefore not alien

We learn from our mistakes... think nothing of it.

Yui didnt technically die... more as what happened to Shinji after he synchronized with Unit 01 at 400%... her body was lost as they failed to get her back (She wanted to stay) & her soul is now the eva's soul

From my view, Rei is not an alien. She was 'born' using the DNA of Yui Ikari, who was human, and Lilith, who was the Second Angel. As said by Ritsuko in episode 4 (I think), Angels are almost exactly identical to humans. From what I found, Angels are another form of humans. We (Lilum) ate from the Tree of Knowledge while the Angels ate from the Tree of Life. So, in sense, Lilith is a different form of human, making Rei a human.

I never considered her an alien personally. I wouldn;t say angels "came" from anywhere. Angels are Angels. Humans Are Angels. Reis are Angels. So if everyone is an angel, wouldn't that make Rei a half blood of teh same race, just from somewhere else?

...what am I talking about? Basically I was trying to say (it's been a long day) that Rei is half human-angel, half lilith-angel (well, technically she would be 67% lilith, 33% Yui, but lets not get into that ;)) which are both a type of angel. Kinda like a white person and a hispanic person (not to be racist, using random people). Thier kid would still be human, just a different kind, lol. So Rei is just like everyone else, just a bit different.

As to where teh angels are, I guess it would be one of those "they're all around us, homeless entity things". ^_^

Basically, they were cloning, creating humans with the angels. They wanted people like Rei who could defeat the angels, and eventually they wanted to create thier own angels. That's very basic, there's much more to it!
