mochi is like..a sticky rice ball...kinda...like..it doesnt taste like rice, but it is. *shrugs* There's mochi in Daifukurou, yakimochi, most wakashi (unless its a manjuu).

My fave would have to be WarabiMochi. Its a type of Mochi, but it's not as sticky and it kinda just melts in your mouth.....

    *drools*

oh, my fave snack would be Jagariko.

My favorites would have to be strawberry Pocky, mochi (or anything with red bean paste, almost *drool*), and Calpis/Calpico - which isn't really a sweet, but a milky soft drink that comes in flavors like orange, strawberry, and melon.

Mochi is a small, round cake made from glutinous rice flour and filled with sweet bean paste. They're sometimes colored pink (called sakura mochi, I think, after the pink color of cherry blossoms) or green, but naturally they're white. They're usually dusted with flour to keep the gooey rice part from sticking to everything.

Incidentally, there's also mochi ice cream - which is the rice flour cake filled with ice cream instead of bean paste. It's pretty good, albeit really messy to eat. They come in chocolate, strawberry, peach, green tea, etc. (The green tea ones are the best. The chocolate just tastes kind of strange.)

It, well... urm.... takes some getting used too.

Its kinda like eating marzipan, but tastes more like something pre-chewed :anime:
Dead nice once you get used to it, but thats the tricky part!

As for dessert, mine would be either the mochi we used to make in the apartment (toasted, with cheese on top, add soy sauce and wrap in seaweed-paper)! HAHA!
Or maybe those lil' hard boiled sweets we got during sado...

Well, many Asian stores and markets carry mochi. You can also buy it from certain online stores, although I don't know about the quality of the pre-packaged mochi. Other than that, you could try Japanese restaurants (a bit of a long shot, since the only example of this I've seen was a very small local place in the Bay Area city where I used to live).

Otherwise, you could always look up a recipe and try making your own. You can buy the rice flour at most grocery stores that have an Asian section.

And the taste of bean paste... It's not quite like anything else I've had. It's a little bit like marzipan, mostly in texture - it has a very mild flavor. I find it quite addictive. There are a lot of Japanese cakes and pastries that use it, and not all of it is made with red beans, so the flavor can vary considerably.

    I really like chocolate pocky.

I also remember once eating this really wierd Japanese candy, it was a fruity jelly-like stuff with a peice of fruit in the middle.
