    Saber Marionette J for sure.

It was the first show that Seraphim and I introduced to BakaMattSu, Tamakamekami and others.

The first episode just seems to pull you in to the series, This is a quality that some anime's lack [IMG]

IMHO you gotta start light. I'd say with Ranma½. Then, move quickly out of dub real with some SMJ, or FLCL. Video Girl Ai, DNA², or Nuku Nuku are ok next steps, then on to Eva. Cowboy Bebop fits in there somewhere, Lain comes a lot later.

Well, not on the list, I'd have to say Record of Lodoss War, then Saber Marionette J, it really has to deal with the person you are introducing the stuff too. If they are serious and hate wacky silliness, then SMJ isn't for them, but Lodoss or Berserk may be.

as well, MO, I like you're idea about showing a really good dub first, then move on to sub, but we've seen a lot of dub on tv.

Starting small, I'd begin with something as innocent as Pokemon, or the WB dub of CardCaptors. Then, I'd move them into Dragonball/Dragonball Z, and then to Gundam, perhaps. Then the uncut versions of such series. After that, some hard-core bad-ass anime movies, like Street Fighter 2, Akira, Ninja Resurrection, Vampire Hunter D, or Ninja Scroll.
Somewhere in that mess I'd stick a little Tenchi and/or Ranma and/or SMJ. That'd give 'em all a little of everything, with emphasis on the more action types, which you should really expect from the likes of GNZ. That's just my opinion as your local crazy action fan. It really depends on who we're dealing with, and whether or not you mind driving them insane with all the excessiveness of Ninja Scroll and the like. Maybe that and NR should be excluded to keep sanity. Look what happened to me ...
As for the original list, I'm going to have to say SMJ. It provides the best blend of absurdity, drama, and straight-up humour.
