I heard that in Germany they're trying out a system where you buy the music tracks for 99 cents each and they are put on CD in the store. You can listen to 30 seconds of any track before you buy them too.

Some people may welcome this, making your own mix CDs legally in the store. I always here the argument that people might only want a few tracks from the album and don't want the "crap" ones.

Am I the only person who sees an album like a single piece of art? And if there's a track you don't like, let it play through anyway because that's the way the artist produced and mixed it, there's a reason it's arranged that way and that's what they wanted their fans to hear.
The way I see it, it's like cutting out the best bits of a painting and throwing away the dull bits.

Some of my favourite songs I thought were pretty bland or just plain bad when I heard them first. Some times it can take many many listens to get into a song.

Anyone else agree with me on this?

i agree completely. Some songs just naturally complement each other, and this new system would make everything more discordant.

    For really good bands, yes.

However, a lot of bands only have 1 or 2 good songs, and they fill the rest of their cds with crap. Also, a lot of times when I'm listening to music, I am really only wanting to listen to a few select songs, usually not even by the same artist. Mix cds are good for that.

i hate breaking up cds, but sometimes, the artists make songs that just don't compliment each other. like, the one song that got you into the artist just doesn't fit with the cd...<shrug>
i think it's a pretty good idea tho..i mean, some mix cds are really good and the songs fit together nice

I dunno, when I buy a CD I'm more looking forward to the tracks that I haven't heard over the ones I have.

I love buying a CD that I've heard none of. Maybe I've read a good review. It's taking a risk but it can be worth it. Some of my best CDs were leaps of faith(Terria my fav album ever was one).

The other day I bought a CD from a band called Ephal Duath. I'd never heard of them and only read a good review the night before. But man was it worth it. And a few days before that I got Remission by Mastadon(it was on the top 30 best albums of 2002 in terrorizer).
Both albums need to be listened to as a whole it wouldn't work if it was all scattered.
Yeah sure I got a few crap albums too. but what ya gonna do.

depends what kind of music you listen to i think. the more commercial you go, the more it doesn't matter if you skip most tracks. i listen to all of the tracks on my cd's though. Then again, the stuff i listen to, the artists usually do all the producing and everything, so they can make the cd's as they want it, where commercial bands sometimes have no say at all.
most the cd's i got, i don't think there is a bad track on them!.
    they're too good.
