Welcome to our lil place called MangaToAnime (I discourage calling it M2A cuz the "To" in our name isn't pronounced like 2, nor does it mean 2.)

What's the difference between paganism and neo-paganism?

Pagan is like Celtic, right? Tons of my friends are that. I see their ceremonies and stuff all the time. It's kinda cool, I guess.

But I think that it's really just a western attempt at spiritualism.

A Pagan is basically just one who is not a Christian, Muslim, or Jew.

Therefore, UFOTaku, Hindus, Taoists and Buddhists (in other words, Eastern religions) fall under the definition. Hence, Paganism is not a western attempt at spirituality (besides, what about Native American spiritual beliefs? They are "western" geographically speaking but they aren't cheap cash-ins)

Ultimately the author of the thread is definitely speaking about Neo-Paganism (like Wicca or The Old Religion). And while there are quite a few whiny teen cash-ins who think it's cool, it does not serve to cheapen others who truly embrace one of the religions falling under the banner of Neo-Paganism.

well for the fist question...paganism is just a word that describes a person who does not believe in one god but many. The word pagan comes from the latin word paganus which means country dweller. It was meant to be an insult to people who believed in the power of Earth in maybe the 13th century. Neo paganism gets into more detail, it is meant for the traditions of paganism which are religions inside of paganism. Some of these traditions are Druidism, Asatru, Shamanism, celtic, and the very famous Wicca. Dont get me wrong there are many more but those are the ones i remember right now ^^! and then there are different paths in wicca like Dianic, Gardanian and others. i hope i answered your question okay thank you for asking Oh and by the way im a wiccan

    wendy

Hi chejo my family is form Guatemala too!

anyway if you pick wicca be carefull because many people will acuse you of worshiping the devil okay i know because that still happens to me after 2 years . (sigh*) anyway wicca is very beautiful it does not involve evil and has very strict rules here is the wiccan rede

    WICCAN REDE

Bide the Wiccan Laws we must,
In Perfect Love and Perfect Trust.

    Live and let live,
    Fairly take and fairly give.

    Cast the Circle thrice about,
To keep the evil spirits out.

To bind the spell every time,
Let the spell be spake in rhyme.

Soft of eye and light of touch,
    Speak little, listen much.

Deosil go by the waxing moon,
    Chanting out the Witches' Rune.

Widdershins go by the waning moon,
    Chanting out the baneful rune.

When the Lady's moon is new,
Kiss the hand to her, times two.

When the moon rides at her peak,
    Then your heart's desire seek.

Heed the North wind's mighty gale,
Lock the door and drop the sail.

When the wind comes from the South,
Love will kiss thee on the mouth.

When the wind blows from the West,
Departed souls will have no rest.

When the wind blows from the East,
Expect the new and set the feast.

Nine woods in the cauldron go,
Burn them fast and burn them slow.

    Elder be the Lady's tree,
Burn it not or cursed you'll be.

When the Wheel begins to turn,
    Let the Beltane fires burn.

When the Wheel has turned to Yule,
Light the log and the Horned One rules.

Heed ye Flower, Bush and Tree,
    By the Lady, blessed be.

    Where the rippling waters go,
Cast a stone and truth you'll know.

When ye have a true need,
    Hearken not to others' greed.

With a fool no season spend,
Lest ye be counted as his friend.

    Merry meet and merry part,
Bright the cheeks and warm the heart.

Mind the Threefold Law you should,
Three times bad and three times good.

    When misfortune is enow,
Wear the blue star on thy brow,

    True in Love ever be,
Lest thy lover's false to thee.

Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill,

"An it harm none, do what thou will."

hope you understand and hope it helps with your decision

No, it means someone who believes in a non-Abrahamic religion. Seriously. Look in the dictionary. (Especially since some pagan beliefs hold only one diety)

Don't you think a religions followers shape a religion?
I've met a few who are truely pagan, and almost all of them admit that they all started out as "whiny teen cash-ins". The essence of the religion is not what it used to be. Society changes.

No offence Wendy But this topic of yours looks like you are trying to preach the Wicca Ways. Not actualy asking a question(s) about paganism. Also I feel this topic Is loaded and can go Bad Very Fast.

But yes you should actualy Go and Look Up everything to do with the term Pagan/paganism before you try to answer any questions or state what it is..

i don't know how to quite describe myself anymore as far as what i am. I am almost a completely devout catholic but there are many things that i've come to know about the Catholic and Christian branch that have made me question it. One of which was when i first started researching the Wicca religion in my freshmen year of high school and when i found out it wasn't a devil worshiping religion and that they did not use animal parts in any type of spell at all i went to show my youth group leader the truth about it and i showed them all the rules and in blank and white it said we do not worship the devil and another rule said they did not use animal parts or its blood in any way and my Youth group leader still continued to believe otherwise. i haven't come back to group since and i found out shortly after i left the group had stopped meeting, that is just a coincidence in my opion although now i've come to believe many of the Wiccan ways and will admitt to have been doing about 2 and half years of solitary study and i am thinking of converting completely over except i still believe in Jesus and God from my catholic religion. so yea i don't know if this helps any or not.

The Wiccan Rede! :anime: If you ever actually talk to Ravenwing (wondering why she hasn't seen this) she used to be able to recite the whole thing from memory.

The pathetic thing is that if you ever want to learn about wicca and paganism you can barely find a thing about it. If you look up 'wicca' 'witch' 'pagan' that sort you mostly get the Salem witch trials.

Yeah. Our school computer system blocks anything that has to do with wicca and spells. Of course that doesn't mean there are a few sites that slip by. :anime:

Don't pick on me! Yeah I used to be able to recite it, but I'm a little to negative to try and stick to some of the Wiccan beliefs. So I lean more toward the just Pagan stuff.
