Though we sat so close in class, there are thousands of miles between us.

We smiled as we made believe that we were close friends.

Each rose I gave you was a lie as was your thank you kiss,

Yet we pretended to be friends as you hung from the tree like a fool.

Magic and sorcery can't save us now, nor can the gods,

We have damned ourselves and chosen our destiny.

Our clasped hands lost their grip and we wandered on.

Our paths crossed and all we did was imagined we were friends.

This is more recent. He was a friend, he hurt my friends, and he left us for a new crowd.

We were a "bad influence" on him. beh!

    i liked it.

    but...the line
"Yet we pretended to be friends as you hung from the tree like a fool." seemed very out of place to me.

It refers to two things. 1) There was a large magnolia tree at school that he would climb. 2) In tarot there is the a card in the major arcana called the hang man, which depicts a man hung by a foot on either a gallow or a tree and he is smiling and I really don't know how to explain it... I don't really know enough so I will use a convient thing of the internet...
Yeah whatever one of my friends compared him to the card and explained it, but I am very forgetful of things. This explination fits though. He became a born again christian and changed his personality all for a new girlfriend and an new crowd. Everything we thought he was became a lie.
