    After watching vol. 6 of J to X, I've been doing some thinking (I know, scary thought :D ). I wanted to figure out how far Terra 2 is from various objects in the solar system, given the information provided in the last few eps.

    Known factors:

    Speed through the wormhole: at least 100*c (based on Faust's dialogue)

    (factoring out c would give you the "Wormhole Speed Multiplier," or WSM)

    Time until Neo-Mesopotamia and its nuclear cargo go up like so many fireworks (presumably in Earth's atmosphere): 58 minutes from the opening of the Terra 2 terminus of the wormhole.

    1 light-year (ly) = 9,500,000,000,000 km
    1 light-minute (lm) = 18,000,000 km

    Distance formula: D=r*t

    Assumptions:

    Length of Battle with Fan-Fan/Seiryuu: 10 minutes (this assumption includes the time spent on flashbacks and introspection). The reason this is a reasonable assumption is that most, if not all, of the fight/flashback/introspection takes place inside the wormhole.

    Given r=100*c and t=10 minutes,

    D=(100*c)*10 = 1000 lm = 18 billion km

    However, this is far less than 1 ly (9.5 trillion km). Saturn is about 9.54 AU from the sun (which given the time assumption above, would give Hess 48 minutes to cover the remaining distance to Earth, a minimum of 8.54 AU), while the distance between the wormhole endpoints is about 18 times that, putting Terra 2 at about 181.26 AU distant from the sun. A rather frigid Pluto weighs in at a distance of 39.5 AU, while the heliopause (the supposed "boundary" of the solar system) lies somewhere between 100 and 150 AU. Given that the nearest star is about 4 ly away, this puts Terra 2 in interstellar space, assuming these numbers are correct!

    Moreover, reducing the time from the maximum of 10 minutes while holding the "wormhole speed multiplier" constant would produce similarly ridiculous results, eventually bringing Terra 2 inside the solar system, but still well past Pluto, and given what we know of Pluto's environment, an M-class Terra 2 in that location would be extremely unlikely. It would be better to increase the "wormhole speed multiplier" (WSM).

    An interesting project for someone to take on might be to determine how high the WSM has to be in order to make SMJ's claim that Terra 2 is "on the other side of the galaxy" feasible. However, I would suspect that an appropriate value for the WSM would lie somewhere between c and c^2.

    Congratulations, your calculations were within 3000 km of mine!

    Seriously, though, this is some masterwork material. I must ask permission to publish it in my all-extensive SM Encyclopedia.

    I'm obsessive,ne?

    Go right ahead. I won't mind. :D

    InuYasha - But it's only five seconds away by boson jump! :D
