Inu-Yasha Kouga

All right, we all know and love Kouga (or I think we all do anyhow). He's the annoying wolf clan leader that just can't seem to get a clue in regards to Kagome. As hilarious as it is to see Inuyasha get riled up, I've got a question for y'all.

Why, for the love of all that is holy, will Kagome not just tell Kouga to get lost? He's about as irritating as they come, and while it's a fun element for US to enjoy, it can't be much fun for Kagome (he practically stalks her).

My take on it is that Kagome's personality won't allow her to reject Kouga, seeing as she know it'll damage his feelings.

But while that may the major reason, I think another obvious reason is that Kagome secretly enjoys Kouga's flattery because she knows for a fact that Kouga, who has never met or heard of Kikyo before meeting the Inu group, likes Kagome for herself. Though Kagome doesn't reciprocate his feelings at all, and therefore won't ever end up with him, she can't bring herself to step on his heart for both his sake and her own (since Kouga is living proof to Kagome that she is definitely not Kikyo, since (from what I recall) Kouga's only met Kikyo once and he didn't exactly enjoy the experience).

Also, seeing Inuyasha jealous is obviously flattering for her, since it's the most blatantly obvious proof that he at least SOMEWHAT reciprocates her feelings.

Thoughts?

 

Kouga isn't that annoying. He's so cuuuuutte :catgirl: *coughs* okay, Kouga doesn't really stalk Kagome. Whenever he catches her scent, he just runs to where she is and grabs her hands and says ello and acts all macho, woot. If he really was stalking her, then that would freak her out and then she would tell Kouga off. My guess for the reason why Kagome won't tell Kouga off is that she doesn't want to hurt his feelings, and besides, she should know that love can be painful with the whole love triangle thing going on between her, IY, and Kikyou. Kouga has also done some very nice things for Kagome in the past like save her dang life, he once brought her flowers, and another time she almost died and when he found her he said some really sweet things about her that's he's never said before, and also told IY off

 

i think that Kagome is too nice to tell Kouga to get lost. It would be too rude to tell someone who loves you to get lost. Also i think that she secretly enjoys Kougas attention. Plus Inu Yasha gets really gealous when Kouga "visits" so i guess its no wonder that Kagome is always happy to see Kouga. :anime:

 

I agree with "Kagome's Arrow" about Kouga and Kagome, like how he likes Kagome for her, not because of Kikyo yadda yadda yadda..

Well, I can't really think of much to expand on for this topic, but possibly Kagome could want to keep Kouga to follow/be there from time to time, because as someone else said, Kouga HAS saved their necks a fair few times. Also, maybe Kagome [since she isn't sure if Inuyasha likes her] wants Kouga as back-up? Doesn't sound like her, but you never know...

But I think Kouga may be my favorite male character after Miroku.

 

Well I feel compelled to jump into conversation for the sole purpose of jumping to Kagome's defense, though I've been known to do that on a number of occasions .

Anyhow, I personally can't see Kagome's mind straying in that direction for even a moment (unless there are a few hidden motives tucked in the back of Kagome's brain) firstly because of her strong bond with Inuyasha, and second because (in my humble opinion) I can safely say she feels no attraction toward Kouga whatsoever.

First of all, Kagome had ample opportunity to use Kouga as "backup" when she initially met him earlier in the series. She was feeling especially insecure about her relationship in regards to Inuyasha at the moment, as shown when she sticks up for him being her supposed "boyfriend (but then in the back of her mind rethinks the statement and realizes that it'll only ever be wishful thinking). Now Kouga is a very bold and striking individual, and quite a lot like Inuyasha in some ways, but Kagome wasn't fazed for even a moment when she was offerred the opportunity to "be his mate" (though she was awfully embarassed) whcih shows her immense loyalty toward Inuyasha even when she was feeling especially doubtful about their relationship.

Second, I don't recall Kagome ever leaving even the slightest of hints that she felt even a miniscule ammount of attraction toward Kouga. After all, their relationship originated from a kidnapping for heaven's sake! While Kagome knew aiding Kouga when his life was in danger was the right course of action (and, being Kagome, it was the one she took), she didn't seem to enthralled at the possibility of ditching Inuyasha for Kouga. After this incident she seems to view him only as a friend, if that, and while the constant attention is probably flattering for her, I personally think that Kagome actually would rather Kouga marry Ayame and withdraw his supposed "claim" on her.

Thirdly is the fact that, if Inuyasha were to die/fulfill his promise to Kikyo, I doubt Kagome would remain in feudal Japan for even a day. Ever since her initial trip through the well, Kagome's life has practically revolved around Inuyasha, and while she also shares a close bond with Sango, Miroku etc., I think the ghosts left behind by Inuyasha would be too much for her to bear, and seeing Kouga would probably only worsen her emotional burden (since he'd probably trigger her memories of Kouga/Inuyasha's rivalry). Honestly I think that if Inuyasha DID leave Kagome that she'd probably wind up either alone or with Hojo, either way never truly reaching happiness.

Wow, that was a pretty long reply considering I was countering only a single statement . But what can I say, I'm an avid Kagome fan for life!

I think wing_goddess may be onto something with her observation regarding Kagome understanding Kouga's feelings toward her and his rivalry toward Inuyasha (since Kagome often experiences a bit of the same), but I think it's almost a given that Kouga will eventually relinquish his claim on Kagome (unless Rumiko has a REALLY surprising plot twist for us).

 

DANG, Jen, I said it wasn't like her. Hah, and there you go writing a long 7 paragraph reply to one sentence. Geez. Someone needs to get a life and do something else besides talking on forums all day. Me, I have DDR [just to bother you]. Hehe.

And I see what you mean by Kagome not really being happy with anyone besides Inuyasha, but hey, you never know. Kagome is a pretty complex character at times. I guess I have to agree with you on the whole thing about how if Inuyasha rejoins Kikyo, then Kagome would probably go back to her own time.

Kouga is an confusin gcharacter seeing that I don't know if he is a villain or if he is one of the good guys.

good:He APPEARS when Kagome is in trouble and saves her life.(I think)
Bad: He let his PAck of wolfs kill Rin
