Cobain was important, no doubt about that, but, come on, seriously, is that even a question worth asking? Elvis Presley is, even after all this time, a major icon in the entertainment industry, not just for his music but for his movies as well. Years from now, Cobain will probably be nothing more than a footnote in a book on the history of music in the few lines about the grunge movement of the nineties.
Presley managed to pull off many crossovers between genres, with much more success than many other musicians of his or any other time. He started off singing gospel, and ended up in rock and roll, with pit stops in country and pop along the way. Cobain was pretty much grunge and just grunge. He wasn't around long enough to really do anything else.
If Elvis is the king, Kurt can be the court jester.

lol, i liked the last bit.
Yea, i guess you are right, but there are a few kurt cobain fans around, and when i say few, i see alot in my school, so maybe the force of kurt cobain will magically turn the poll around :) so far, when i posted this, it was 1 - 1 :)

That's because we're the only ones who have voted yet ;).
I didn't know there were any Cobain fans your age. It's rare enough to find any MY age these days ... You know, other than the people who maybe own a single Nirvana album and think that makes them president of the fan club or something ...

I honestly didn't like either, but that's just my opinion. The fact is, Elvis defined an era and changed most everything we know about music. His name is a household word. Cobain, on the other hand, really didn't do much. He wrote music, sung it, and died. His music didn't define an age, and very few people would recognize the name who weren't around during his time. Hell, I didn't know who he was until 2 years after his death, and then I heard it from a big fan of his. So, I think Elvis gets my vote.

ooooohhhhh Kurt i love you man.

*note to everybody i am a huge Nirvava fan:D *

I voted for Kurt simply because of his guiter playing skills and the raw emotion he puts in his voice. But when it comes to song writing Elvis wins. His songs have great lyrics.:)

And both were great jokes indeed.

    Here's something fun:
Both Presley and Cobain had a big hit song released posthumously. Nirvana's You Know You're Right, which the band had played many a time live and had recorded in studio, but did not make it onto any of their albums, and then was released on their greatest hits thingy. Big song, that. And of course the JXL remix of the King's A Little Less Conversation, which hit #1 on the Billboard charts. Kind of ironic because the original was so unsuccessful.

Before I cast my vote, which version of Elvis? The early sex symbol? The slobbish overweight ham? Or the released alien hostage saviour? :p

Okay, Okay...I take Elvis over Curt. Far more exposure. Longer life.

I never really liked Elvis, personally and I always enjoyed Kurt's vocals and song-writing as opposed to Elvis'. Of course there's the undeniable fact that, well, Elvis came first so that is definitely bound to taint the minds of some people. It's like comparing Tolkien and Robert Jordan. Most people (usually) say Tolkien because he came first (albeit, I think, he was a just horrible writer). As sad as it is, and as much as people deny it, these things usually end up as populairty contests.

KURT COBAIN ALL THE WAY!!! He, in my opinion, is the best!! Elvis is just there with a few good songs...but Nirvana and Kurt have been my fave since I was a little kid...another one of my faves is Trent Reznor..but yah that is a different thread. OH!! and Sid Vicious too! (the Sex Pistols) OH YAH!!! ^__^ heh...and that again is another topic...so I guess Ill leave it at that!

Kurt Cobain is the best without a doubt.
I think along with metallica that nirvana revolutionized the thinking of rock music. After kurt ( i cant say metallica too because they are still kickin it!) came a new era of rock which i think he alone created....and i think that elvis cant top that.
