    I'm around 20 minutes to LA myself. And as far as "shopping tips"...hold on to your bag. ^_^

    Just kidding. Check out China Town and Japan Town, since you're in the area. Neat stuff in there.

    I can see downtown Los Angeles from my rooftop. If there is no traffic on the Pasadena Freeway, it will take me about 7 minutes to get to City Hall.

    Here's some tips, get a Thomas Guide first of all! I've lived here my whole life and some of the places downtown still are hard to navigate. Pay attention if you get instructions to someplace downtown too. The shops are very small and often hidden (an anime store I went to with my buddy had an entrance almost completly hidden from view inside a parking structure underneath a skyscraper. It took us a VERY long time to find it). If you just want to walk around and check everything out, try the areas around Broadway and 4th street. It feels a tab bit like New York (what with all the stores, people, towering buildings and vendors).
