There's lots of tutorials on the web :)
I suggest you take a search engine and find some. Then you can print them and study. Efficient and easy :)

its best to advertise for a tutor and hire them because then you really are able to understand about the actual speaking as well as the reading for example delicious is oshii notice theres an xtra "i"well people that learned from online tutorials often forget to put that second "i" there...

The best way to learn the correct pronounce is to watch anime.

That's very true, you get lots of pronunciations right by watching anime. Example I thought 'Konichiwa' was 'Korn - nishu - wah' in the past and I kept on saying that  but after watching some anime I realised I got it wrong. You also learn a some vocab by watching anime. Like hello, goodbye, thank you, ok, what?, ****, damn.... you know those little phrases

I've studied German for 3 years with a teacher who rarely used actual German in the class. I've learned more this last year (new teacher) because we actually are expected to understand the German he uses. We miss our assignments otherwise. You just can't get it without hearing and speaking the language you want to learn. You'll never hold a decent conversation. Spending time in a nation or neighborhood that speaks the language predominantly is the single best way to become fluent.

Also, I've gotten a better grip around Japanese through watching subbed anime than I did from a book-based course. Though the book was a good supplement.

I think that if you want to go to go to Tokyo you wouldn't have to know that much Japanese, since alot of people seem know at least alittle English so I think you'll survive unless you plan to live there, since that would be a problem. And alot of things in subway stations are labeled in English as well as Japanese. But you probably should know some basic words.

    Step one: go to bookstore
Step two: by hulkin huge Japanese-english dictionary
    Step three: study LIKE MAD
    Step four: Learn proper grammar

    I have a 3000 page Jap-english dictionary. Soooo.....heavy....

And.... you wanna go to Tokyo University?!?!?
YOU'D BETTER HAVE A 100% AVERAGE!!! DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO GET THERE!?!? After high school graduation, only about 40% of Japanese students go to college or univeristy....

true, but dont try and learn japanese from anime. You can learn 'casual conversation' from anime, but talking to sempai and teachers, etc etc is very very different. you'll have to learn that.

also, yes..you'll need a big dictionary :) and a kanji one (those are soooo helpful) If you need anything, try:

Okay, I learned Japanese (kinda) the hard way, so here's what worked for me and what didn't: ^_^

Watching anime: Sure, it's cool that I can sing "A Cruel Angel's Thesis", but really, I'm not going to Japan to talk about the legend of a boy, or how I want you to rip through my heart. Pronunciation? Sure, I use that as an excuse to watch anime. :D But really, meh, you won't get much vocabulary out of them.

A Japanese Person: The most helpful thing in teh world, provided tehy speak decent Japanese and English, and don't run when they see you.

A Library Book: That's what got me anywhere. It taught me grammar, a few words, suffixes, and politness.

Teaching Others: As you learn, if you teach someone else what you know, like a sibling, and use it frequently or every oncein a while, it REALLY helps, so taht you have someone to talk to, and it's not just mindless study.

SUMMING IT UP: Get a library book and a study buddy (eehee, it rhymes) who can speak Jap, or wants to learn. You'll be speaking in no time! ;) We could even start a thread where we all talk in Japanese! (Or attempt to)...
