Keep in mind that there is no new or particularily rare music on the CD.
Its a best of album with new names for old pieces.

Maybe David has collector reasons for getting this album, so I don't
mean to slight him, but I find it a sort of stange phenomena that quite
a few people seem to be after "Space Walk".

Far fewer people seem to be after the couple mostly synth soundtracks he
did. (Which unfortunately are all now out of print though "Storm From
the East" was made in large enough numbers that its not rare) One of
them, the Moog heavy "Catastrophe 1999" even came out in 2 very
different versions, a mono version with like 40 short tracks and a 2
long track stereo version meant for album release.

I actually imediately headed to the sales counter to buy "Space Walk"
when I first saw it in the mid 1980s, I think CDs weren't out yet
then.Anyway on my way to the counter I saw in fine print that all the
tracks had been taken from other albums and turned and put it right back
    in the bin.

Does anyone know if Tomita himself came up with the concept of the new
spacey names on this specific album (like he did for is Sound Cloud
Shows) or if his label came up with the repackaging concept and the
names. Also I assume since he still was with RCA in New York so I assume
they had final say on this project (not RCA Japan)

I have a copy of Space Walk on the original store
bought cassette which I have transferred to cd,and
created cd inserts from the cover.A cdr could be
burned for you from this if you need it.But as Nick
    points out,it's all a re-hash.Make your own!

    Hello there,

for me "Space Walk" is THE definitive Tomita-album, even if the pieces were
released already on earlier records. The tracks fit perfectly together and
the whole album has a really spacey atmosphere, though the liner notes might
seem quite crappy to some of you. I started to listen to this great
collection of music in the bath tub since I was about 14 years old and my
mind just started floating towards space (and still does!)... :)
I would give a lot for havin' an original CD release of this masterpiece -
much more than for owning some of the partly quite mediocre soundtracks
    Tomita did.
    Sorry, but that's my opinion.

A question: Does anybody know the "Gakko Soundtracks, part 1-3" [catalogue
number of the japanese RCA-release: BVCF-37001]. It sounds sort of a
mainstream New Age Music. How is Tomia involved in this (for example quite
    mediocre) project?

    Greetings from Germany -
    fingerprince

I think you are talking about a collection of music of the popular TV
movie "School" and its more recent sequels. I wouldn't call it really
new age, its meant to be sentimental (then again a segment of the
mainstream New Age market is gushingly sentimental).

Well for better or worse Tomita writes a lot of music for television for
a living, he doesn't get offered many acceptable offers to do synth work
while his regular orchestral scores are in steady demand. (he's been
    doing them for 40 years)

The movies and the sequels seem to be very popular hence the soundtrack
album(s) got released. I've not heard the collected music mentioned
above. Just the original mini-album that had Synclavier strings I think,
but its not synth-oriented in general. Sometimes they re-record stuff in
these collections for consistancy, but I have no more info.

As I mentioned some of his scores are very synth-filled, this is not one
of them. Some of his non-synth scores are quite wonderful too. This one,
IMHO, is more fans of this movie.

    Hi,

I don't have the space Walk album (anymore :}) but isn't it possible to
recreate it from the other CDs, or is there some new
    music in between or so?
Maybe we can do a joined effort in this, so that people point out which
tracks, from which CD, possible crossfades etc.
I'd be happy to create a CDr from it than, if someone else can do the cover
    etc.

    Bye, Ruud

I don't find "Space Walk" interesting, but I'm really desperately searching
for these "mysterious" soundtracks, especially "Misty kid of Wind". Somehow
I've managed to get 1999 and School 1,2,3, etc. but after ten years I'm
still missing MKOW!! If someone know where to get it, I would really be
    grateful.

I have Misty Kid of Wind.
Could you get me a copy of Shin Nihon Kikou?
Then we can make a trade.
