Is it just me or is the Return of the King going to be the best of the triligy! I've seen a bit of the cartoon version, but not enough to know what happens (except for a major spolier.) Anyway, just the previews give me shivers. What do you all think? Are you looking forwards to seeing it as much as I am?

Well, it can't be worse than the first half of the book ...
Seriously, I'm probably not even going to see this movie, partly due to a stupid argument with a friend of mine about adaptations and Tolkien's tendency to ridiculous descriptions
I'm sure it'll be a good flick, though, lots of action and all that. And of course it'll sell, considering how Lord of the Rings has wormed its way into pop culture these last couple of years. And then Burger King will unleash more stupid promos, toys and games will flood the market yet again, the soundtrack will fill the shelves at Wal-Mart and all the marketing execs will say how they wish Tolkien was still alive so they could make another sequel. Then they'll decide to do the Hobbit.

Actually, I'm glad that they are finally making movies out of these books.. Though, it feels strange to not be part of a minority who knows anything about Tolkien anymore.

I'm looking forward to the next movie, I hope this one does the book justice as well.

Just watch, within ten years things will have settled back down. There'll be more LOTR junkies, but the majority of people who saw the movies won't have the same level of fanaticism as us.

    Don't believe me?

Back in 1977, people would brag about seeing Star Wars 12 times.

Nowadays the only people who know how many turbolasers a Star Destroyer has are sci-fi forum geeks like me.:D

To me, all I have been waiting for since I heard of the LOTR movies is this last part of the triology. If you thought the battle for Helm's Deep was good, wait until you see whats coming up in the last one. I just hope they give the battle of the Pelenor Fields the screen time it deserves. Damn, I can't wait till I see Grond (the giant ram). With Trolls at the ropes who sometimes go insain and stomp the orcs underneath them. Or what about the watchers at the gate? They totally freaked me out in the animated series.

What I REALLY want to see is Shelob in all her glory, getting pwned by Sam.

The Battle of Morannon is really going to be spectacular.....and I hope that the Battle of Pelenor Fields does get all its deserved time too. :D

    :bleed: oh Liv Tyler......

edit: I hope the Corsairs of Umbar look good too!

I've been waiting for this movie. But it seems to me that there was a lot more hype about the first movie before it was even really into production.

As to being part of a minority who knows about Tolkien, I think we still are. I mean, a couple of months ago, by some weird twist of fate, I ended up doing Tolkien Trivia against someone. They said 'I bet I know more about Tolkien than you.' so I said all right.

This person only knew random facts about LOTR itself, such as C.S. Lewis being the inspiration for Treebeard and whatnot, and nothing about the author. Of course, the books are what really matters, but...ah, anyhow...

I think that Tolkien's 'ridiculous' descriptions are part of what helped these movies be a success with LOTR fans and people who haven't read the books as well. I also know a lot of people who picked up the Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy after seeing one of the movies.

    EDIT: Movie typo.

**Sigh** Unfortunatly, I got confused when I started to read the hobit.
(What's worse is I saw the animated version, and know it practically wrd for word)
I gave up trying to read them, so unfortunatly, I dont know what's going to happen.
    (Heh. Damn ring)
All I know is if they kill Frodo off theres going to be some serouse Head aches at my house.
    (I tend to remble)
I loved the battles in the first two movies (The Two Towers mainly)
    This movie should rock!
    **Jumps for joy**

I can't wait for Eowyn and Merry to kick butt! I just love that part! And all the legends that rap up the return of the King.

About what Meaikoh_Takashi was talking about,
While this is not directly about Tolkien, I have something I wish to share with all those who can't get enough of Middle Earth. There is another (and even better in my opinion) book that I got from my brothers about ten years ago. So far, I have only found it in one other library and it was in questionable condition. It is called "The Sillmarillion" and it contains EVERYTHING from before the creation of Middle Earth till the end of the third age. It is difficult to get through and it doesn't have a character that it tells the story around (it took me twice to fully comprehend). But holy moly. Put it this way, when Gandalf said that Sauron was just a servant to an even greater dark lord, he was not screwing around. The original guy was one powerful dude with an awesome name.

They have the book out on e-bay. But if you find it in a store or in a library, many props to you. Just settle back, open it up and prepare for a tale. Thats all, sorry if this is somewhat off the subject of the Return of the King (awk, do kill me if it is).

That's excellent! I've read The Silmarillion (got it in hardcover from the school library- an pleasantly unlikely source) and I found it hard to get into at first. It reminded me of the Bible for some reason...

But, once I got started, I couldn't stop. It's a fantastic book, especially the section near the beginning about music. There were a good deal of names thrown around in the book, as well as Evil Lords (such as Sauron's master- but I won't get into it).

There were a lot of things that are interesting when coupled with LOTR and the Hobbit.

I can't wait. The cast and crew said that this is supposed to be the best of the troliogy.

I loved the movies but the books were much better. The movies just don't have time to get everything in. I always wanted to read the Silmarilon never made the time for it. I guess I should move it my list of books to read. It sounds good.
