It's no secret that I hate Macross 7. It screws up continuity, it put mouths on valkyries (the hell?), it ignored the fact that there is no sound in space, theres a million other plot-holes, and I'd like to gut the main character like a fish. The only good parts about it are some of the music and a few cuties, like Mylene.

But friends, I have had it.

    I have HAD it!

A friend of mine (who may soon join this board) has been downloading Macross 7 episodes so we can mercilessly mock them.

    The time: 2 am.

    I'm at my computer.

Suddenly an ICQ message pops up.

"Scott, you aren't going to believe this."

It turns out that one episode (Im pretty sure its the series finale) has a certain piece of music at one point which is just entirely wrong.

Around the 8 and a half minute mark, we cut to a scene of valkyries attacking the enemy, and the pilots are singing.

    What are they singing?

Wendy Rider's "Riding in your valkyrie".

    Whats wrong with that?

That song is from Macross 2, set a good 40 or 50 years ahead of Macross 7. And it isn't even part of the main continuity, being an alternate reality.

Some may reason that Wendy was singing an oldie, but honestly, who the hell sings an oldie at a festival/air show?

Honestly, when was the last time you went to a fair and heard "Tell Laura I Love Her"?

Whats worse, is that if Wendy was singing an oldie, she improved upon it massively. And Wendy is possibly one of the most pointless characters in the entire Macross saga. I mean it.

I don't know if everyone understands why I hate Macross 7 so much, especially this part, but I'm not letting my voice go unheard on this issue.

The main character is hideously over-rated and over-exposed, the plot-holes are massive, a lot of the music is just bad (although there are some good points), and now this! They're music is so terrible they have to rip off something else!

I can understand if they use "Do You Remember Love", as that song holds special significance and was made before Macross 7 took place. In fact that would have been a much better choice.

But this just makes no sense!!!

Argh. Ok. I've gotta stop rambling now. Its past 2 am, and I need some sleep.

    I'll continue this attack later.

Heh, I avoided watching it since I saw some of it while my brother was watching it. I saw some pretty colored air and said "What are they doing now, og probably an air show." Than I reliazed it was during a battle and I said "Ook . . " Than I also reliazed they used some sort of sound that I don't understand since I only watched it for a good 3-5mins. Oh well.

Calling it Gundam Wing is practically a compliment...

    MACROSS 7 IS AWFUL.

So is Gundam Wing, but GW didnt strike me as just-flat-out-wrong right from the start...

hahaha I know the feeling. I just couldnt watch it. Every part of Macross 7 I could get (The Series, Dynamite, the movie, etc) had a long wait... to a Basara concert..
It´s the only thing I didnt watch from Macross. I didnt spend my time hating it though. The only reason I could have for hating it would be if they push me to see it on tv, something that never wont happen (for copyrights) and even so I´ll have my remote control to the change the channel :p May be the worst part of it is the spiritia thing that bothers any serious/good story. Anyway I have a place on me to enjoy its music :D (it´s not that great but well..)

I've only seen the Dynamite OVA myself, but saving space whales? that's a pretty bad plot right there ><; I'll try to stay away from the series. But, no one can take Fire Bomber music away from me, no matter what they say because it's the r0x0rz, and that's the way it is.

    It's also a bit of a rip-off from Moby ****.

Anyway, STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THE SERIES.

    It doesn't make much sense.

In the first episode, Basara has a custom-design VF-19.

It sits next to his apartment.

How did he get a top of the line mecha? He's a civilian!

    What about repair and refuel?!

WHY IS IT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CITY? ITS NOT EXACTLY HIDDEN!

I'm a devout hater of M7 to say the least.
It destroyed my love for Macross almost entirely.

The thing with the Macross II songs was just put in there as a joke by the producers. That's all that the Jamming Birds sing, Wendy Ryder songs.

The whole thing was produced as a bit of a joke, a friend of mine says alot of it references the old Super Robot shows of the 70's.
Can't really comment on that though, but he said it became a much better show after he wached those old shows.
He is a stoner by the way :)

The main reason i hate M7 though was because it felt very drawn out. The whole thing could of been squeezed into around 18 episodes, and would of been much better off for it.
I quite enjoyed Dynamite 7, sure it was over the top trash, but it was kinda fun all the same. And it didn't suffer from being dragged out.

U're gonna tear me apart 4 this but.....

I haven't heard a more limp wristed excuse for not liking something than what you lot put up.

how boring would this series( or any other outta space series) have been if they had stuck to reality and silenced all the space scenes.

Basaras character has been really well thought out, he's not the typical American - lets shoot everything hero, he's only passionate about singing if that saves the day then so be it, i found his attitude hillarious, the music is fantastic and i was dissapointed when M7 finished.

I have seen Macross 0 and Super Dimensional Fortress Macross- Do you remember love and found the to be equally as good as Macross 7. I havent yet seen M2 but i cant wait.

I'm not certain what bit you are talking about whn you say

"Around the 8 and a half minute mark, we cut to a scene of valkyries attacking the enemy, and the pilots are singing.

    What are they singing?

Wendy Rider's "Riding in your valkyrie".

at 8 and a half Basara is still unconcious, in the fight sequence just before that Mylene is singing "Holy Lonely Light" and when all the Pilots are singing including Max jenius the song is "Light the Light" not "Riding in your Valkyrie" but that is about 13 minutes.

and what would be the point in hiding the Valkyrie?

Ever see Crest of the Stars or PlantEs? Next question.

It's not even that he's that bad a guy, its that he gets forced down our throats non-stop and everyone is a 2-dimensional character.

    It's from Macross 2.

Well lets see. A top of the line military ship that has the military scrambling to discover who pilots it... take a guess WHY it should be hidden. It's also vulnerable sitting out in the open.

Edit: Though the fact that you bumped a nearly 2 year old thread to defend M7s honour is proof enough for me of the mindless loyalty of its english fans who dare not speak against it.
