If anyone does not yet know or are interested to know, Macross Plus Special Edition was released today.

It comes on three DVDs, one for the Macross Plus movie and two for the 4 episode OVA. The movie comes in japanese Dolby 2.0 and 5.1 but with the english subs hardcoded. Also the video isn't all that great for a dvd, I would rate it at about SVHS quality.

The OVA fares better on all counts. It has an English Dolby 5.1 audio track and a Japanese 2.0,5.1 Dolby. The subtitles are not hardcoded so you can switch them off and the video quality is supreme, a very clear transfer.

The extras you get with it are some trailers, production notes, an image gallery and as with their release of Akira, a few easter eggs.

All this for around 30-35 euro.

Now all this may seem great, and it is, it really is but they really screwed up the labelling. The Movie comes on what is labelled as episodes 3&4, episodes 3&4 come on disk 1&2 and eps 1&2 come on the Movie disk. Man did this ever piss me off. I spent a couple of minutes wondering what the **** was going on? It wasn't very nice.

I bought it in GAME and while I didn't see it for sale anywhere else it should be available in HMV, Forbidden Planet and maybe some other stores. So go get it. Support R2 anime releases and all that. Plus it's a really kick *** anime n' all.

I bought it in GAME on Dawson Street, though they should have it in any store. I bought it for 34.99euro but if you managed to find it in HMV it'll probably be a bit cheaper, like maybe, 4-5 euro cheaper.

The VCD version I have is just the OVA and it is a proper release so the subs are excellent. As far as the video goes I would say it's probably as good as the DVD version of the movie that comes with the DVD set but of course it does have some pixelation in the more motion intensive scenes, overall it's better than VHS.

hrm... Eh? How come your going to be at Heauston Station at 10:30am on Thursday? Passing through?

Why is it you weren't able to make it to the anime showing in Maynooth? I had already seen the Tenchi OVA albeit a Singaporean edited realease but it was better than I remembered it. Nudity, cough cough!! Plus there wre a whole load of anime music video's that were pretty funny/cool?

Anyway I think there is going to be another one in about two weeks where they will be showing Crest of the Stars(Seikai no Monsho) along with some other stuff. And if it was that you didn't it was worth coming up to see Tenchi, Crest of the Stars is definitely worth the trip and I'll kick anyones arse who says otherwise!

Ah they dropped the "plus" from the title, no wonder the search results kept coming back negative. Cheers Nicholas.

My set arrived today, or I should say sets.
    They sent 2 of 'em.
If anyone wants the spare they can have it for whatever the euro equivalent is of GBP£15 + postage. Saves sending the damn thing back to England out of my own pocket.

Manga totally messed up the labelling of the discs.
The DVD with parts 1+2 is actually the movie disc, and the disc with parts 3+4 has 1+2 on it.
I knew Manga well a mess but for ****s sake...

Vid quality seems OK from what I've watched of part 1 so far. I'm not even sure if I'll watch the DVD's since I've already seen Plus on VHS around 10 times.

It's nice to have 'em though since my VHS copies are starting to show their age.

If my exchange rates are up to date that's equal to €23, I think it retails for €30 in shops here so that's a bargain.
Postage would only be €1 on something like this anyway.
