i don't really like mainstream anime( but inu yasha ). but knowone can say that it didn't help out all anime fans. without mainstream you wouldn't have all your magazines( like newtype ) or dvds( like angelic layer ) you get from suncoast( because in san bernardino thats all we have ). also i strongly believe that cannels like cartoonnetwork and kidswb do !@#$ up anime. they do cut out alot of stuff and make it look like anime is only for children. so if you hate ms then try differnt means of getting it( like manga or dvds ).

we didn't get newtype because of mainstream. it's one of the top moving picture magazines in japan. i've been getting issues when i could find them for almost 5 years now. ( i miss the arnold references in every issue damnit lol)
between that and animage, it was inevitable that one of them would come over to the US market.
mainstream stuff can be used as an excuse for things like The Anime Channel. there's been alot of stuff that's great that was out long before going "mainstream" such as cowboy bebop and trigun.
the only thing shows like that going mainstream means to me now, is that it'll be easier to get good merchandise from that show.
