Hey guys!!

Have you seen the most hilarious giant robots parody that airs on Cartoon Network?

MEGAS XLR.

It's about this giant mech from the future which gets sent to the past (that is TODAY) and ends up in a New Jersey garbage dump, and this dumb guy picks it up and attaches the robot to his car.

It makes fun of ALL the giant robot anime's i've ever seen. Even the sound effects (and some visual effects) are the same. Well, kinda...

I've only seen 4 chapters and I'm already hooked.

One of the funniest scenes i've seen is when the girl asks the guy how did he learn to pilot so well, and we see flashbacks of him playing videogames since he was a kid.

Another good scene is when he fights other robots from outer space, and smashes one on a building.

Outside the building we could read a sign which said:
"Conveniently empty building." That knocked me off my chair laughing!

Yes, that's the point!

Usually, Mech pilots are either innocent victims who ended up piloting the unknown monster (Mazzinger Z), or great airplane pilots of excel abilities (Robotech), or more often, your average genius-with-all-virtues-and-excellent-students- role-models-for-brain-washed-kids stereotypes (Mighty Morph what?).

But never, ever... jerks.

So this show is yes, a parody where nothing's sacred. The main pilot is a jerk, stupid and always gets saved by coincidence.

OH, i know how to describe it. MEGAS XLR is to giant robots, what Slayers is to medieval adventures. Hmmm wait. No, it's MUCH MORE irreverent. ^_^

Or something... in any case, good luck. I'm sure the next episode will be funnier - what episode did you watch by the way? I strongly recommend the car contest episode.

 

I'm looking forward to getting a look at this show. It hasn't aired yet over here but it supposed to start on Toonami in about a week or two. The main character looks funny from the ad's i've seen.
I think it starts after i get back to college so it may be hard tring to get a look at it. But i'm still looking forward to it.

 

Actually, when I first saw trailers for the show, I was like "Are these people morons"?

Then I saw it, and, actually, it's quite good at poking fun at the Mech genre. I'm a fan, certainly, but it's not like it's the best show ever.

 

I've seen a few episodes, and so far I've been killing myself laughing! At first I thought it would just be another boring mecha cartoon (sorry all you mecha fans), and in some ways it is, but the humour more than makes up for that!

I especially liked the episode with the REGIS 5 - don't take the slushies!!

Ok, I love the show and all, but I olny have one question.....XLR= Xtrea Large Robot? Or are the just random letters.
