Eirtaku Metropolis DVD

Well since we get so few anime releases and few so well done I just want to let everyone know that Metropolis has just been released on DVD by Columbia Home Entertainment.

It's a two disk set, one for the movie and another dedicated solely to extras. There are a whole load of extras on the second disk and all of them are really good. I haven't watched the movie itself but everything I've heard and read is pretty much summed up in this review:

I would recommend everyone goes and gets it. I bought it in HMV for 28 euro and I would guess you can get it in most other places.

 

That's pretty cool. I've been curious about that anime movie and would like to watch it. How about we watch it in my house this weekend or something?

 

Sure why not. I guess I can hold out for a couple of days.

Oh and I finally got my Aya Matsuura album in the post this morning. So yay, it's very nice.

Well bugger that, if this thing is going on in your house this weekend and I were to bring my PS2 I think I've just ruled myself out of the games. I've just lost control of most of my right hand. You wouldn't have liked to have seen how it happened, it wasn't a pretty sight.

On the plus side yestarday I came across City Hunter the movie(based on the anime) with Jacky Chan on sale so I got that. I watched the trailer and it looks really good. God it's a pain in the *** typing with just one hand.

I've just watched Metropolis for the 2nd time there a minute ago...
*brilliant*...
just ... *brilliant!* - ^_^
Such wonderful imagery...
& style...
& camera angles...
& animation to die for...
maybe... *some* of the computer generated stuff *could* have been done a bit better...
but that's just me getting *really* picky! - ^_^
This is a *damn* good movie!!!
there are so many scenes which stick in my mind...
but I wouldn't want to spoil it for anyone! -
If you haven't seen it yet...
then go see it... *NOW!!!*

I still haven't watched this movie yet but can someone who has confirm something for me. Some of the animation in the trailer is a bit ropey and I just can't think of any reason why it would be that way in the film itself. Can someone just check the trailer and compare it to the movie, it's just one or two scenes in the trailer that seemed odd? Maybe some of the animation for the trailer was taken from early in production.

I hadn't watched the trailer until now...
I'm not sure which pieces you thought weren't up to scratch...
tho' I *suspect* that they were computer generated elements...
like I said above...
*some* of the computer stuff *could* have been done better! -
& after watching it again for the 3rd time...
I *really* think this...
particularly the "airship" & there's a big fish thing too for a few seconds...
that just *doesn't* look like it fits in properly!...

I could also complain about the continual zooming in & out used on certain computer generated scenes that seems like more a case of "hey we can do this no problem with computers... so let's!", than a thought out directors decision...
but *that* I think, will *always* be the case when you try to mix computer & traditional techniques...
all of the *normal* animation stuff is *first class*...
so if it's *that* that you think looks bad then...
I'd be very surprised!

Overall, I think the film is really ambitious, well directed & animated & some moments are really touching...
& others are just *damn cool!* -
& I *love* the choice of music for this film! -
tho' I *strongly* suspect that a *lot* of people will have a *very* different opinion about that! - ^_^
Oh well! -
it's a magnificent film in my opinion! -
but that's just it...
that's just *my* opinion! -
anyone else have any thoughts on it?
