hrm lets dicuss first the sharpness of the Nihontou. The Nihontou is regarded by many experts as one of the finest cutting weapons ever devised by human hands. Its edge is like that of a razor blade, able to cut through yellow bamboo without being broken or nicked in the least. Again in my background in Kenjutsu, ive made cuts on hardwood such as Maple and Oak with stunning results. (i may post pictues later)

As for the water test, ive actually seen tests of guns be fired at the edge of a Nihontou. First was a 9mm pistol and the Nihontou split the bullet into two pieces without damage to the blade. Next was a .50 cal Machine Gun. it was fired at the blade and while the bullets did infact shatter the Nihontou it did in the process split 7 bullets being fired at it. While some may say "oh its a weak sword" remember the sheer power of a .50 cal Machine Gun, it can cut trees apart and the Nihontou still split 7 bullets being fired at it which is unbelievable.

    actually Ninja means Endurance

[/OUTE] I think ninja means man of the Shadows. (for whoever said it was Vanishing Warrior earlier)[/QUOTE]

actual word for ninja in japanese is
    Shinobi -stealth
but it still would transluate into man of shadows or vanishing warriors since they can mask themselves.

well there were classes of shinobi

    Jounin
    Innin
    Chunin
    genin

shinobi is often times looked at as the "generic" term for the ninja

the word "Ninja" (忍者) is broken down into two kanji "忍" meaning to endure and "者" meaning "someone" so Ninja means "someone who can endure"\

again the word "shinobi" is written with the kanji "忍" meaning to endure.

so in actual fact, shinobi and ninja have nothing to do with shadows or vanishing.

on another note, the word "samurai" (侍) can mean several things, such as "waiter" or "to wait upon" but is most often translated as "to serve" as in the samurai code of honor to serve their lord.

another word for samurai is "bushi" (武士) which translates as "武" military and "士" warrior

Buke is a term used for a samurai family and translates as "武" as Military and "家" for home or house, a more loose translation it becomes "samurai family"
