Anime Mobile Suit Gundam

I'm not going to make this a lengthy Roger Ebert-style review, so I'll try to keep this as short as possible.

This is the worst movie ever made. This is coming from a guy who has seen a lot of bad movies, and even liked some of them.
The animation is terrble. Granted, it was made in 1981, so that's almost excusable, but I've seen other works from this period that far surpass this quality. It's amazing how far animation has come in twenty years ...
The voice acting is horrid. I was hoping the villains of the movie would win just so the annoying heroes would die, preventing them from subjecting me to the horrible sounds of their disgusting lack of talent.
The story is at best ridiculous, and at worst pathetic. We have a kid who just hops in a mobile suit, and suddenly can fly like an expert pilot, a ship crewed entirely by civilians that still runs better than most of the other ships in the military, and a whole lot of soldiers and pilots who go into battle without ammo, apparently. They shoot off about six shots, then they're spent. Then there's Garma, a Zeon pilot who is apparently obsessed with the opinions of his sister, and he never explains why. I guess that would make the story make sense, so it couldn't be allowed. Also, one villain betrayed another for no reason at all, and then seemed to vanish from the story. They had nicknamed the tracking of the Gundam "Trojan Horse" for no reason either. Then there's the fact that even though our big hero's father died early in the movie, he never even cared, but rather sat around whining that he didn't want to fight because he didn't have time to sleep.

All in all, bad acting, a terrible plot, and unbelievable characters make Mobile Suit Gundam The Movie a big waste of time. Remember, y'alls, it's two and a half hours you'll never get back.
