Its my first attaempt at a watercolour, its yuna just in case you were wondering. Its really bad I am not pleased with it, the eyes suck and the lips suck and I screwed it up and had to fix it, then I experimented with black lines. This was really an experimental peice. Comments and critisism is more than welcome.

hmm watercolour.. you use it like gouache. use more water when painting with watercolours and let it flow ~ that's all I can say. I like the colours you used. what paper did you use though? weight?

I love watercolours hehe! *goes berserk*

Well, you did a nice job on the hair - but Seraphim's right, you've got to use more water to really get the intended effect out of watercolor. (Not that I'm one to talk, since I can't paint worth beans. XD) I'd also have to say that the lines are a bit thick, which is the real problem with them. Many nice watercolors are done by doing a light pencil sketch and then darkening the important lines on that - and then you paint thinly over the sketch, leaving the pencil still visible. That technique also has the benefit of letting you be messy - you can go outside the lines and it still looks good. XD Hope that helps?

Yeah the black lines, I like them, its kind of a style I think. But I did realise I needed to use more water, and turned up noses, as my boyfriend keeps commenting on. I aggree about the hair, I am good at hair, but thats about it really. Well I had another go after the yuna one. This one is much better, but it still has a turned up nose and the eyes need improving, well not bad for my second try. The paper I used was textured watercolour paper, doesnt say the weight, (one of those pads that comes with a gift set).

    More comments please ^_^

Actually, the second picture of yours is quite good, Rem! I cannot really advice you on technical details, though, due to my absolute lack of artistic skills.

You are welcome, Rem, although there is no real reason to thank me. I've just spoken out my opinion, that's all.

well I think both are great! (just being difficult :p ) especially the hair
could you try something with more tones and shades? I'd love to see how you blend colours.
and you could try mixing thick watercolours like your first pic with more watered down colours to add texture to your pics
    yay!!

Thanks for the advice, Heres a third watercolour, a big improvement on the first 2 in my opinion. This one is less realistic and is very colourful ^_^.

I think your art is beautiful. the colors contrast well, in my opinion. I cannot color/shade/paint worth a damn, so I won't even bother with watercolors. I just draw. wow, aren't I talented. :shy:
