My brother recently returned from another trip to Japan, and brought back some games including the latest Naruto fighting game for PS2. I've never watched the anime, but I've heard about it from two years ago. Now, after playing the game and seeing all the super attacks, I wanna check out the anime!

The normal fighting is simple and plain until you pick up the powerups. The stages are interactive, and the game play is more like "2 1/2 D" rather than 3D. (Like Fatal Fury for Genesis, you jump/teleport occasionally from the foreground to the background, but otherwise fight 2D style.) The super attacks are pretty cool. It's the kind where after you initiate it, the screen goes into sort of movie sequence mode, and a column of button presses appear at the side of your screen. You gotta press em in the correct order as fast as you can without mistakes to keep the super attack going (2-4 separate attacks in a single super attack, and 3 super attacks for each character). Your opponent does the same (though a second behind) to try to lessen the damage (we think). And yeah, the characters do their moves from the series! Rock Lee's ultimate one makes him all nuts! Oh and Naruto gets nuts too! (His face turns scary!)

There's supposed to be another game, Naruto 2, for GameCube. I heard that it's closer to a traditional fighting game, and can have 4-player battles, and that it's constantly out of stock in Japan, so maybe that's a better game... I guess it all depends on whether you own a GameCube or Japanese PS2.

that game sounds really neat. I bet you'd have more of an appreciation for it if you saw some of the anime.. or most.. lol. those ultimate Rock Lee moves come later on in the show but you'd find out sooner about Naruto and why his face goes scary hehe. this 2 and a half dimensional aspect sounds like its meant for Naruto.

No, they're in Japanese. Worst yet (for fans like you), we'll probably NEVER see them in English! Unless the creators create enough hype in the foreign market (Americas, etc.), like if they actually translated the anime and put it on Cartoon Network, then they'd go "sure, let's translate the game as well."

But yeah, it's good to learn Japanese for a good reason (such as getting to enjoy Japanese games). While learning, save up lots of money so you can eventually buy Japanese game systems. Save up more, then you can take trips to Japan!
