Well, I'm ecstatic after reading up on this. Obsidian Entertainment (who involves some of the masterminds behind Planescape:Torment, Fallout, and the upcoming Knights of the Old Republic 2) has snared NWN2. With a release date of 2006, according to Atari's site, you can imagine its causing quite a community stirring.

I can't say I'm not excited. NWN would be my absolute favorite game of all time, being truly neverending with its toolset, mod support, and hugely active community. A second helping just sounds great.

Atari has a small splash site up for the game, having followed yesterday's public announcement, and it links out to Obsidian's NWN boards, where discussions are already burning up like wildfire.

    Check it out:

Can't say I messed much with the toolsets, but the mods (but more so the fanmade campaigns) for the game made it absolutely awesome, which is the same reason I still play it as I play Starcraft and DiabloII, as though the original game is decent, mods really make it shine. However, they did a really horrible job in the original NWN in copying the 3rd edition DnD system. I'd like to see how they get it done here.

Obsidian has confirmed they'll be using the 3.5 edition ruleset this time around, using all that BioWare has done up to this point as a base (NWN/SoU/HotU). Since they're not starting from scratch, they should be able to focus on a more compelling campaign to ship with out of the box (unlike NWN's original campaign, which was one of the last things developed, and in crunch time).

The NWN community is just...wow, and a lot of innovative stuff is out there.

Heh, indeed. I've seen a lot of nice things from the NWN Community, and enjoyed many campaigns and such that they made. Of course, I rarely participate in such things myself, because I'm laaaazy. But yeah, some of the things they have around is really impressive. But, I guess that's what happens when you give out expansive customization possibilities. As far as I know. The true SC community didn't bloom all that much (besides the usual Korean 1337 people and such) until StarDraft and StarGraft became hits for modifications.
