Eirtaku New Battle Royale DVD, V Cool feature.

Just remembered that the anime muppet who does Thursday night anime on Sci Fi mentioned that the DTS edition of Battle Royale is out soon.
While that's cool enough he also said that there'll be an alternate ending on there, that is too wicked.

Now I have to fork out for another Battle Royale DVD, Tartan are pricks.

 

Sonuva*****, that's just not fair. I wonder if this new ending means that the version they are releasing is the directors cut. While directors cut versions are usually better and longer the Battle Royale dc is supposed to have some of the more violent stuff edited out but still I think the alternate ending is apparently the better ending, not that there was anything wrong with the original, I thought.

 

hrm, I'll just rent it and rip it, then watch both a gfew times to see which I like better

This new release is effectively Battle Royale:Gaiden, which was released in Japan.

The main film is unchanged but the second disk has deleted scenes and interviews.

 

Bastards! I was ambushed by a very mean looking DVD in HMV and it forced me to buy it. I was just innocently browsing the DVD section and next thing I know I see this silver box flying towards me(might have been my hand flying toward it but it all happened so fast), a hop and a skip later I was outside with my newly purchased copy of Battle Royale: Special Edition with a funny little smile on my face.


Well whatever way it happened this DVD set kinda kicks ***. I've never seen a DVD with so many extras and most of them are well worth watching at least once. The film is eight minutes longer so I'm guessing that the extra scenes and alternate ending have been integrated into the film as I don't see any alternate ending or deleted scenes on the extras disk. So essentially this is a directors cut. One of the best extras is also the simplest extra. The directors comments about the film and how he relates his own experiences as a schoolboy during WW2 to it and for me at least it really changed the way I look at the film. The only thing I dislike about this disk is that they changed the menu design. The menu from the original was one of the best I'd ever seen and it is now replaced by simple red text on a silver background. They do have Strauss's Blue Danube(bloop) playing in the background but it just doesn't make up for it.

Another cool thing about it is that it come packaged in a silver metalic case, nice.


Oh and in case anyones interested, anyone want to trade for my old DVD version of Battle Royale?

Oh I don't know, a small sheep perhaps, a chicken, bag of grain anything you might have to hand really. A DVD, some anime or an anime DVD even would be better but we can't always get what we want, can we now?

yeah I have Spirited Away on DVD. I bought the R3 version about three weeks ago. On the extras disk it has a cool feature whereby you can watch the whole movie with just the storyboards for each scene instead of the actual animation although you can switch back by simply pressing the angle button.


Feck yoooou! I already have my hands on one of your DVDs, MST3000, so nyeh? Your not getting it back! Well maybe you are but not now so poot.

Haha.. I've just finished watching Battle Royale with my brother and he asked me if they might make a sequel; I said it wasn't likely. ho hum.



And after watching the film and quite a few of the extras I can honestly say I have no regrets about buying this DVD, even though they already made me shell out for their original release, bastards!

 

A sequel, I really don't like the sound of that
There's no way in hell BR neeeds any sort of sequel, it'll probably be one of those "more of the same" movies.
At least Fukusaku is still on board so it might still turn out OK.

I might get that BR set, even though I just ordered Hana-Bi and Castle of Cagliostro from play.com a few nights ago.

That Japan Today site is wicked, not one I've seen before.

I bought BR a while ago on Amazon under the assumption that it would be difficult to find it here....only to walk into HMV on Grafton Street last week to find the special tin plated edition with new scenes just inside the front door.

Poor old me, violin music please.

 

Finally watched BR special edition fully this morning, I must have missed something, the ending was the same as the standard edition as far as i could tell.
It's not like the alternate ending is and extra on disc 2, it says on the back that it's on the actual movie disc.
