  1. Ladies/Gentlemen,

Okay here's something new to chew over.

We know that new Tomita recordings are few and far between, its
    almost
twelve months since the Tale of Genji was released, but we know he's
    still actively making music.

This idea comes from a documentary I saw on television a while back
    about
Rock bands using the internet to sell their work; Marillion I think
    it was.

I don't know how many of us there are in the Tomita fanbase,
    Benjamin Ward,
could probably tell us, but there also lots of people out there on
    the net who
    probably visit the site.

Right, we write to Tomita, (he probably reads these notes anyway),
    saying if
he would be interested in producing a new limited edition piece of
    work/s for
those of us in this fanbase, we could all subscribe say an agreed
    amount of US$'s
or whatever currency he wanted up front, so he would know we were
    genuine.
At some point in time he could complete the work and arrange for
    copies to
be sent to everyone involved. In the meantime he has the extra
    income, (I'm not
    saying he need's it obviously!).

Someone would have to be nominated to control the logistics of it
    all, but at least
we would all have something new to listen to.

Ideas and comments at your leisure.

    David Bassett

I certainly can't speak for him but Tomita's music career is extremely
different from Marillon or even Klaus Schulze who's done roughly these
    sorts of things.

What I see as the problem right now is firstly Tomita has always taken
months of solid work to make his albums, so, because of what he does do,
which is score a lot of televison specials and TV movies orchestrally,
he doesn't have the weeks and months to devote to record new synth
stuff. And because he gets straight commissions to produce music, he's
not relying on a fan base and sales to support his career.

On the other hand its always tempting, to hope maybe he'd put together a
compilation of a lot of non-album synth pieces, either tests, tracks
from unfinished albums, short commissions that can be cleared for
release, soundtracks that are electronic, etc. That with live concerts
is essentially what Schulze has done. He found way over 50 albums worth
of stuff lying around and released 50, or is it more? CDs on a little
label one of his friends runs, sheesh!

But son some extratrestrial still other hand, Tomita seems to be in the
same camp of Vangelis in that he does not want to put his name on
something that is not a proper album (unless someone releases something
without his cooperation, like the live Genji was a legal release but not
one he approved of). Some people feel that way. Its not like he has an
album he wants to release sitting around that for whatever reason he
can't. Its that he certainly must have some material that his fans might
love but that he was never happy enough with it to arrange for a release
    of it.

One person I'll bring up is Hideki Matsutake (Logic System) does have
all sorts of things that are long out of print, never released, even
numerous tracks from a too early venture in selling downloadable tracks
on the internet. He's probably be a good candidate since those internet
tracks, and sending stuff to ampmusic's compilations kind of proves he
wants to do this sort of thing. I hear some of his out of print albums
are being rereleased quite soon, but no one has released details yet.
