So, it's MGS, with the Brood? Sounds mighty interesting...but I'd rather Starcraft stick with the RTS. But, we'll see how it does for a tatical ops game, won't we?

    Could go either way.
    ...

One bad point is that if you stick with original SC damage figures, you're screwed against most enemies.

Make new damage figures, and you get debates over what figures are 'real' in a versus debate.

Anyway here's hopin' that its a good game.

hahaha a lot of people at the infoceptor boards are surprised I'm suree. I was reading their speculations about Blizzard's upcoming (at the time) project X announcement. No way is it going to be Starcraft.. but if it was, 1st person would be cool! No way! FPS would suck! maybe a console game, but then it would have to be third person.. hahaha yeah right..

    and so on

Must say, you'd think they'd have learned from Westowood's failed Renegade.. RTS does not translate well to one person action.. We'll see how it goes. Since I don't have an XBox though, oh well hehe

3rd person adventure from the looks of things.

Oh boy. Tomb Raider in Space.

Boy am I glad I don't have an X-Box or I'd be compelled to get this game no matter what due to the liscence.

Graphically it does look quite nice (as it should, being an Xbox title). First person shooters on console aren't necessarily bad (ala Halo, GoldenEye), but "Tomb Raider in Space"? Bah.

Aye.. that's why I didn't call it an FPS like renegade; to make the comparison I had to stretch and call it one person action hehe

The thing that bugs me is the conscious decision to leave PCs out of the loop. THey stated they are developing it for multiple consoles.. The difference between an XBox and a PS2 is far greater than between an XBox and a PC. THey will make (from the sound of it) a PS2 version, but will not make the smaller effort to port to PC as well, where the StarCraft fan base lies. Oh well, their choice and a game I won't ever have :/

this is just a off series type thing...you are the roll of a ghost, going on missions, battles, the works, 3rd person MGS style, you will have all the same abilities as in the RTS (ie: Lockdown, nuke (yes, nuke)) and well thats about all i know, they still plan on makin a SC2 they say, but this is just something different, and i am all for it :D

Personally I went with Gamecube because of a lot of the titles coming out for it, but yeah, it's a bad move to leave the PC users out of this. I love gaming on the PC and theres a lot of extra stuff they could do on the PC. Lots of really neat, highly technical stuff.

Sure, there will be the standard sniper scopes, cloaks and whatnot, but I mean some *really* cool stuff, like complete customization of the agent ala Deus Ex, modifying your gun to your preferences (down to every little detail, not just plugging in an add-on), or having user mods so you can play as other units (come on, look me in the eye and tell me you wouldn't love trying out a few protoss units).

Granted some of that stuff could go on a console but not to the same extent.

If I get this game, I won't be comparing it to starcraft, I'll think of it as a game in it's own right. I think most of you are being too dismissive saying that **** like "Tomb Raider In Space", comparing it to renegade or *****ing because it's not on the PC. The fact is I've never played a bad blizzard game. I'll hold my judgement until more is known.

Its hard for your games to be bad when many of them are essentially updates to an earlier games engine/play style.

Diablo 2 is like a prettier, more detailed Diablo 1.
The 'Crafts are all similar. Start at the first Warcraft, go to Warcraft 2, then SC, the SC:BW, then Warcraft 3. They have similar play mechanics and each one essentially adds a new wrinkle to the former.

Both Diablo and the 'Crafts are fun, yes, but mostly because they take a fun concept and just keep building on it.

A 3rd person adventure on console is new, untested ground for Blizzard.

Hey! I remember another time Blizzard tried something new! They ended up canning that project! It was a Warcraft adventure that played sort of like a King's Quest.

Edit: And why did they can it? According to what I hear, they weren't very familiar with it and were concerned about the quality.

Edit again: I feel I should also add that most of Blizzards loyalists are PC gamers. While I'm well aware some also play consoles (I do), theres a fair number at least who hate and resent consoles.

why the hell shouldn't I ***** that it isn't on a PC? That is what I have, and what all previous StarCraft games were released for PC. Notice I did not say exclusively, SC was ported to a console. Yet they will not do PC gamers the same favour with SC:G. With all the effort to make an XBox and PS2 version they won't put forth the minimal (smaller anyway) effort to port from XBox to PC, where the SC fanbase lies.

It may be good, but I won't be able to play it. Thus, I think their decision sucks. And why not compare it to Renegade? They are both 'single player action' translated from RTS. In my post mentioning that, I said "we'll see how it goes" not it will suck like Renegade. I simply noted what happened with the last FPS from an RTS universe.

Blizzard may rise above, or they could pull a Warcraft Adventures, but as I've said, it makes no difference to me cause I can't play it. So I think their decision sucks.

amen to that, i also think you are all prejudging the game a lil too early, look at the new zelda, same thing happened with that, everyone hated it, now more love it...just wait til the game comes out before you get your lil pissy fits, and as i said before, there is a bigger fan base of that genre on consoles, and most PC gamers are console gamers too, now i was just bringing news and it turned into a debate sorta...lol well happy gaming all!

If ya could, it'd be fun to play as a Templar or Dark Templar! :D Maybe even crush zerglings in a Goliath? Hehehe...sadism for the "Alien" race! SQUISH!!!!

It'd seriously, if made correctly, be fun to go and do espionage missions like in MGS. Kinda scary too, since it's the brood you're facing (from those screens).

edit: It just came to my attention...if you switch to first person view in MGS2, you see cockroach splatter...what would happen if the Hydralisks start spitting on you!? Eeeew....that's even grosser than 1 million + old anthropoids!

not sure what the debate is.. it could be good. But pre-praising it is no good either. Of course no one will know until it comes out, I'm just bummed that I won't be playing it. And it would be fun to play as a templar.. if it was on a PC someone could make a mod :p
