Cleaner, quieter with much better stereo imaging. Significant improvement
over the previous "Dolby Surround" version. ( I don't have a surround setup
so I can't report on surround...use headsets most of the time)

    But...

Still not the crystal sharp quality and presence I keep hoping for. It has
always sounded somewhat muted to me in the highs and with tinges of
distortion here and there. Some of it may be from the mellotron, which
always sounds that way to me. Some of it may be in the nature of the
original recording and perhaps cannot be improved on. So maybe this is the
best they can get out of it...for now.

Of course the music and Tomita's performance is wonderful. If you don't
have another version of this recording yet...this new CD is certainly the
    one to get.

    OT:
Another interesting CD in this BMG/High Performance series is an unusual
orchestration of the Carmen Ballet by Bizet conducted by Arthur Fiedler
with the Boston Pops. Done with strings and percussion only!

I did find the new CD for "Snowflakes Are Dancing" to be a little more
sonically pleasing, especially "Arabesque" which sounded clearer on the high
end. I just got "Bermuda Triangle" and "Daphnis et Chloe," and, again,
these have become my favorites so far, although I can't say enough about how
good "The Planets" and "The Firebird" are. I especially enjoy the sonic
textures in "Venus" from The Planets. Being a musical synthesist myself, I
truly appreciate what Tomita has done. I am hoping to get "Spacewalk:
Impressions of an Astronaut" on CD someday.

Curious to know where you got the Daphnis Et Chloe CD....I have been
trying to order it from various sources for several months with no luck.
    Any help much appreciated.

I found it real odd that Jarre would do a track or 2 with well done real
strings (Metamorphoses). All it does is make all his digital sounds seem
    like any serious electronica act.

I just like the art work on the cover. I think this album is just another
compilation of his greatest hits, isn't it? JOHN

That's right, but with fancy titles, which can be confusing. I think
perhaps what Nick wondered was why would you want another Greatest Hits
type compilation on CD, when all the music on it is available elsewhere?

I don't think the penchant for record companies to water down and split up
"Classical" works into nice, convenient, bite-sized, lifestyle,
short-attention-span portions has dimished in any way since the days of
'Space Walk'; Tomita had already had at least two compilation albums out by
the time it arrived in the shops.

or doubly if you like the art then why a CD instead of an LP ;)

oh in regards to the Orbit album--

I looked at one but it was an overpriced UK import. It does not contain
"Daphnis and Chloe", it contains "Pavan for a Dead Princess", a delicate
but far far less complex piece than "Daphnis et Chloe".

Prior synth thrills are the Barber Adagio (also covered by Sakamoto as a
Japanese exclusive track). Ravel's "Pavane" was also arranged by Maywa
Denki, who do like the anthesis of a classical synth album. Almost
everything they do is electromechanical, servo motors playing acoustic
    instruments, that sort of thing...

I'm just a collector of ALL of Tomita's releases, regardless of what music
is on it. In fact, if I could order every album Tomita has ever released, I
would order them ALL today. It's not that I am tired of his "Greatest Hits"
CDs, it's just the fact that I would have that album just in case is was a
discontinued item (which I think it is) later. Thanx! JOHN
