    Hello Tomita List!

    1. This is my first message & I am very happy to be here!

I would like to thank the people who created the listen.to/tomita website,
which contained a link to this list. Reading the archives, the list seems a bit
"low bandwidth" as of late, which is fine - but I am hoping for many more
    discussions shortly! :)

To date, my favorite Tomita album is Bolero, although I am
greatly enjoying The Bermuda Triangle which I have just gotten my hands on.

    2. I have a looked closely at the Tomita webpage over the past few days, and
I am thinking about buying some more Tomita albums on CDs.

Right now, most of my collection is on Vinyl, which I love because of the fat,
rich analog sound it produces for me.

I recently bought the first edition of Tomita's 1984 live album (put out on CD
in 85) and was not so impressed with the sound quality. Can some fans
please suggest which CDs sound excellent? What about the Dolby
Surroundsound (from '91?) CDs. Are they worth it? If so, where can you buy
    them?

Thank you & greetings to the entire list!

    Kevin

I am not the world's most critical listener, but IMO the Dolby Surround CDs
were pretty much not a good idea. Working from memory here... "Snowflakes"
came out of the mixing process sounding kind of harsh. "Pictures" was a
disaster--I remember the 'chicks' disappearing entirely during the course of
'The Ballet of the Chicks in Their Shells'. I think "Planets" survived the
mastering OK, but I gave my copy away, opting to keep the original CD issue.
I think "Firebird" and "Kosmos" were acceptable, too.

I would recommend buying non-Dolby CDs from Japan if you can afford them (I
    recommend http://www.mediawars.ne.jp/~mundo/collect/file/t-isao.html), or
searching for the original CDs on the used market (ebay.com or gemm.com).

I have not yet bought the remastered "Snowflakes" CD, since that would
represent the fourth time I've bought that album (LP, CD, Dolby CD--which I
must have also given away). Can anybody offer an opinion of whether it's
    worth getting?

    KWL
