GeForce is a chipset, Nvidia doesn't manufacture it's own cards.

How much did you buy the card for? Even if you didn't purchase it yourself do you know what the MSRP is. I could probably figure out what card that just by that.

The MX440 was a great budget card about 2 years ago, but there are far better options nowadays.

"DX" stands for the DirectX version you have on your machine. Pretty much every game these days runs with it, except for those Quake III engine games that are still around using OpenGL. :)

The other two cards you listed aren't too bad, and you should be good with either if the two are what you've narrowed things down to.

As for a "GeForce Unique", sorry, I don't know any card or chipset called that.

Sounds like a Ti4200 at that price. It's not much of unique card. The card is okay now, but with the new gen games coming out soon (Doom³, Half-Life 2, Far Cry) it'll become obsolete soon. Tell you friend to pump in maybe an extra 50-100 dollars if he want to play those games. If not, then the card should be fine.

AGP is a port where you install the video card. VGA is a port where you connect the monitor to the video card. All video cards comes with VGA.

    Thank you guys.

the unique isn't ti4200, it's the NAME of the card.

and is the GeForce FX5700 128MB better than ATi radeon 9000pro 128MB.

Your processor is irrelevent. It's dependent on your motherboard. I have the feeling it's a little dated, and you don't have an AGP slot...

AGP slots have been incorporated in mainboards since 98...
but yes... some board doesn't come with a AGP slot...
just open the case and tell use if you see a shifted slot in the lower area of your motherboard..
a slot shifted slightly to the right over the White PCI slots
the shifted slot over to the right by a bit is the AGP slot

P4 stands for Pentium 4 Processor.

I think the best way is to get a new computer. It seems that your computer is rather old. You probably should upgrade to a P4 computer.

I think you are confusing the chip (the GPU or Graphics Processing Unit) with the card. nVidia makes the chips, and other manufacturers (often in Taiwan) build a card around the chip. Mine is from Leadtek (with a chip made by nVidia of course). The chip is the bit under the fan. It plus everything else makes up the card.

AFAIK, nVidia does not make any cards (or boards), unlike ATI which does make some.

Geforce = Chipset that NVIDIA MAKES
Inno3d / Innovision = Manufacturer of the video card
Tornado = Brandname of the card
