ive had this idea in my head.....and philosophy is one way to understand it. as a philosophy that is. i think night time is just a time to escape from daily burdens. hence we use it as atool to delve into parts of ourselves that would never show during the day.

for example, i will apply myself sexually at night with the ones/ones i love, yet during the day, i return to my meek state, and tend not to want the sexual attention the night brings on. at night, i drink, smoke, and at times, i get high. yet during the day, i feel ashamed for these things. i feel bitter towards certain ppl, and i dont ever wish to partake in these things again.

yet as the night comes again, the feelings of guilt seem to fade, and the lust that only appears at night returns in all its glory.

what awaits all of you at night? what could you never even imagine in the light do you enjoy during the night?

If what you do at night makes you feel guilty during the day, how is it an escape from burdens? Seems to me you only add to your issues with this so-called "escape" of yours, hmm?

I think that people feel less guilty about letting out their dirty little pleasures at night, and that is the only "release" you get . . . not really a release at all.

Ahh, the night. No time of day is more important to me. At night, I usually go for a nice, simple, walk. It's always nice and quiet, and cool. It calms my heart, and helps me to relax. There's not much more enjoyable to me than to sit out at night, listening to the sounds the insects make, looking at the stars, and thinking about those I love.

Obviously, I don't live in New York.

[EDIT]This is my 200th post! I wonder why they haven't tossed me into the night yet? Oh well, I'm not complaining.[/EDIT]

well, i think you may not see the true question in the statement. and your retoric is cheap, so come off it.

im basically asking if the night is your time to regain yourself. im not asking you to judge my affairs, nor to delve into my life. if the question is to complicated for you, then i suggest that you simply quiet yourself for a minute and think. hmmm?

It isn't the night specifically that allows you to regain yourself. It appears to be, because we know we can get away with all sorts of stuff then, and associate that freedom with the night. However, it is possible to obtain that sort of freedom at any time. Ask pretty much anyone who knows me and I'm never very concerned with what the average joe off the street is going to think of me.

Now granted I'm not going to walk into a grocery store with a beer in hand (shopping with just one hand available is annoying), but if I flirt in the middle of broad daylight with a lady friend and the flirts begin to wander into more sexual territory, so what as long as I'm not disturbing people not involved in the conversation (by being loud and such)?

bravo, you may have chalanged my point. yet...you seem to actually agree with it. you mention convos, yet you could never do the deed there. so at night, when darkness has covered the world and you are alone with the one you want, can you be freer than if it was day and you were in a crowded street.
see mon cher? night is to day as freedom is to captivity~

Well, night has always been referred as opportunity for "evil". The terms "children of the night" or "dwell in the darkness" come to mind. Why? Because nobody sees what you're doing.

Still, if you use the night to escape as what troubles you in the day, Well, maybe you should seek some help to overcome your daily problems so that day becomes a good reality and not a nightmare?

    Just a thought :D

Wrong. Why did I add the qualifier of "as long as I'm not disturbing others"? Well, to avoid being a nuisance to them, because as much of a jackass as I may be, I'm not going to, for example, discuss the kama sutra when theres a 10 year old at the table next to us. I've had plenty of bawdy conversations during the day, they just happened to be in more intimate places like a riverside, my hammock or a restaurant where people aren't right beside us. As far as doing the deed goes, oh, I definitely would give it a shot, unless we're surrounded by all those people. If you think that it'd be different during the night, try going into a restaurant and having sex on a table there. See how long you last before you get tossed out (assuming the crowd is of the same density).

It isn't night that gives freedom. It's not having other people around.

    Amen to that!
Although Lucky does have a point in that people do think "different" thoughts at night, even if it is just fantasizing about whatever turns them on.

Don't want to be judged, don't talk.

As for your question, I did answer it (I think, though maybe I only thought I did), though maybe I wasn't clear . . .
It doesn't really matter what time of day it is, whatever time you spend on self reflection is basically when you "regain yourself." Personally, I find 5:00-6:00 a.m. to be far more peaceful, and have better luck meditating on my strengths and faults then.

Though this topic may be appropriate for philosophy, many of the posts within aren't.

    Lucky, you are being warned.
