Square Enix No Card in Memory Slot Bug FFIX?

Just bought FFIX after just buying a PS2. Was very excited since I was a huge fan of VII and VIII, and it was such a long break between 8 and 9.

Anyway's, after playing for a while I get to the first save spot and when I try to save I get a No Memory Card in Slot 1 error, when I try to save in slot 1. This came as a surprise since there WAS a memory card in slot 1 with about 6.5 MB of space. The other 1.5MB of space having been used on Madden 03.

Anyone know about any problems with FFIX detecting memory cards. I went out and bought another hoping it was the card (changing slots didn't help BTW.). So now I have two memory cards in 2 slots and neither are detected.

I'm using what I thought to be standard PS2 memory card's nothing fancy, no strange brands. The only thing I notice is they are using Magic Gate technology whatever that is (3rd party OEM maybe?)

I am using NTSC on both PS2 and FFIX. I have a version 4 PS2. Memory cards work on other games such as madden '03. I've read the memory cards can be glitchy, any ideas that can help me out would be greatly appreciated.

Not a bug. Neither is it the fault of the game.

*ALL* PSX games you use won't be able to detect your 8 MB PS2 memory cards... You have to plug in and use a standard PSX memory card. Kind've a bummer, but those games were made before the new memory card - so you need old ones. Fortunately, they're still easy to get, and cheap.

    Thanks

I didnt realize it was a PSX game, thought it was PS2, never would have figured it out.

    Thank you.

Am I a complete numscull, PS2 memory cards are for PS2, PS1 are for PS1 games, but that was an honest mistake.

Whoa there Evilo, keep it calm. There was no reason for that, and plus you spelled numbskull wrong.

PS- Scrod, an easy way to tell the games apart is by looking at the bottom. If it's black, its a PS1 game. If it's blue, its a PS2 game.

Actually, I believe it's more of a purplish-type color. ;) Anyway, PS2 games also come as DVDRoms, so they can look almost like normal CDs on the bottom. Another way to tell is PS2 games usually have a BIG "PLAYSTATION 2" logo right at the bottom. You can't miss it, almost as much as the disk color.

Ah, and all PS2 games come with a DVD slip cover, PS games come in CD jewels. And...MagicGate is actually a way to compress those files to fit that 8 megs in there, I believe.

LOL, nah dude, I wouldn't even have KNOWN it was purple if it weren't for the fact that you said they were another color. I had to go and check out all the games until I found an unDVD game to check. ;)
