Lower than you think. I'm 5'9'', between 200 and 250 pounds an I look like I'm 180, though I feel.....well, you get the point. But, alot of it is muscle,s o I'm really not as heavy as I think sometimes. Muscle weighs mroe than fat.

its the truth.. its so easy to say.. Oh I am Fat because My dad is fat or my mom is fat.. But if you look at yourself and think about what you do in a day I bet most overweight people have desk jobs, Sit in front of the tv, play video games.. computer games.. In the span of a day probably dont walk more then 5 min at a time.. And eat there 3 meals with a ton of snacks in between..

so in other words stop blaming your problems on other things and get outside and DOO something physical..

Actually, my brother does all of the above except having a job), and he's super skinny. He eats and eats and eats and drinks pop and snacks on candy. He goes crazy and is always hungry. Last night, he woke me up at like, 11:30 to say he wanted to go get a mid-night snack. He, most likely, has a high matabolism. (sp?)

My little brother is the same way. One day, he will be fat again, and then, payback time, HAHAHAHAHAAHHA! It seems people who are fat don't feel like doing anything and the samw goes for people with high metabolism. Ironic, don't you think?

Really unless you're heavy or was heavy at some point in time (the first person to raise their hand and tell me they were- when they were an infant, will get a flying boot to the face) you really don't know what it's like to try and burn off weight nor the difficulties of doing such. The reason why we're larger is because our metabolism is a bit slower than the rest of you all (a direct result of our lethargic lifestyle), and it takes a while for us to get that lazy metabo up to the rate it should be. Slims, on the other hand, have a higher metabolism because of either genetics or the active lifestyles they live.

When we (hefties) first work out our bodies initially burn off weight rather quickly, however after a week or two our bodies enter 'panic mode' and that rate at which we were shedding pounds suddenly drops off. It's during this phase that most people stop trying to lose wieght because they're putting all this extra time and effort into something that they're not seeing any results from. Unless they stick with it and get over this 'plateau' they're not going to shed the overall poundage.

It's 90% mental, but most of you slim jims out there don't realize how difficult it is to overcome it. I'm at the point in my life where I'm about to say f*ck it, I'll just be happy with how I am. The debate springs up everytime I look in the mirror. I can't seem to decide which makes me more unhappy- the way I look and feel, or putting up with the problems of trying to shed it all away.

I'm almost positive that I'm not the only one here on the boards that has this same problem.

For the love of god, Genetics only play a part in a small percentage of the population's weight problems. You might have the genetics for a "round" body shape, but that doesn't mean that you HAVE to be fat. Much of that weight can be burnt off and/or converted to muscle. Sure you won't have rippling abs, and you'll still be "round", but at least you'll have the muscle mass rather than the pudge.

Obesity is *NOT* a genetic problem.

    It's a CULTURAL problem!

People eat too much with every meal. A stupid woman said: "Oh we eat too much? What do you want us to eat, two meals a day?"

I've noticed this. In mexico, people used to be slim. But with fast food, junk food imported from the US, kids start growing fat.

Plus, it's the lack of exercise. I walk around a mile per day, but there are people who don't walk *AT ALL*. They either stay behind a desk at the job, and in the couch at home.

And please, stop eating all that junk! Carbohidrates are LETHAL! You need to eat more protein and fat! People have eaten protein and fat for centuries, and they remained slim!

Carbohidrates are CONCENTRATED SUGARS. No matter how "low calorie" they are. They turn to glucose in your blood, and then turn to fat.

Stop trying to buy magic remedies from infomercials! THERE IS NO OTHER WAY! YOU HAVE TO DO DIET AND EXERCISE! PERIOD!

I hope this post can compete at least a bit with those infomercials...

Bull. I've got myself a book by Dr. Andrew Weil (Spontaneous Healing is the name), one of the leading health authorities in the world today. He devoted a whole chapter to diet.

People eat altogether too much protein. Here's a short excerpt from his book:

In fact he recommends one protein based meal a day, with the others based on carbohydrates and vegetables. 60 grams of protein is the minimum daily requirements of the average adult, certainly 120 grams is plenty. When you consider that most consume much more than this...

It's bad unless you are near someone really skinny and some guy with a sword comes by to kill you both, the skinny guy would get sliced right through, but heck you'd be laughing because the sword would get stuck somewhere before your stomach before the guy with the sword got tired.. so, that may be the only good thing.. other than starving to death in the cold? Your body fat could save you, but then again, some skinny guy who is freezing cold could slice you open and hop right in and use you for warmth.

I should mention the sword hadn't been sharpened recently.. how about stabbings even?

They did a bunch of tests on the show Braniacs and the fat guy won. :D There are some advantages to being big, such as people are afraid of you because of your size and strength, but again, it can be hazerdous to your health.

My views are that obesity is bad. Being obese means that you or the person is extremily over weight. Their are some people that can't help it due to medical reasons. For the rest of us we are just full of thanksgiving turkey, christmas ham, fat greesy cheeseburgers with diet cokes, and cold left over pizza.

For people who try to have an excuse for this problem it is their own fault. Unless there is a medical reason then there shouldn't be any problem. Let's all get off are lazy duffs and lose some weight.

The reason why America is so obese is the fact that you can probably find 10 fast food places in your surrounding area, maybe even more. America just eats and eats and eats. People stop at McDonalds for a cup of coffee in the morning. Then they come by for lunch, and then stop back for dinner on the way home. It's no wonder we're the fattest country in the world.

People have what I like to call a "comfort zone". Exercising or anything like that takes them out of their comfort zone, so they don't do it. It's sad.

Nonetheless obesity is both bad and disliked. As some of you stated before, it causes a number of problems. America has a serious problem and I think that the people really need to prioritize what is important in their lives. But I do know that just loving food too much is not the only reason for obesity. There are many underlining factors that lead to it. But a lot of obese people are obstinate; they don't want to change and they don't like being told that they are fat.

But I also think that it is sad that there are people who can't eat what they want. I mean my whole family is thin, so we never have to worry about, "oh what is this cake going to do to me." But then again if you are obese you need to carefully watch what you consume. That being said even though I am a skinny girl and hardly ever gain weight, I don't eat like obese people. I don't eat any fast-food. Not b/c it’s fatty, but it is unhealthy and gross. (Sorry for those who love it!) I guess that maybe b/c it is not part of my culture to eat a lot. I don't know. But I know that instead of making fun or shunning away those who are obese we should help them. I mean it is the image that other countries attain from the U.S. and besides I think that it is sad to hear how obese people can't do simple things such as playing outside with their kids.

But really it is horrible to see people who need cranes or scooters to travel. That is quite appalling. (Again, sorry if this offends anyone). And losing the weight is not an easy thing either. I mean yeah there are surgeries and stuff, both those to are risky and do not immediately take the fat away.

But the seriously, I cannot stand to watch obese people cry and be depressed about their health problems just to see them continue to eat away. Really I am not a mean person, but I do agree; obese people really do need to rethink their lives. Get help, get active, just do something.

The sad truth is that some people have much faster metabolisms than others. There will always be people who can eat all they want and atay thin, and people who eat very little and gain weight. It's not fair, but it's true. But there is good news (and no, I didn't just save a bunch of money on my car insurance :)). IF you excersize a lot, but keep it up for a while (say, a sports season), you can jump-start your metabolism. From there, it's easy.;)

And some people just lack self control.
