I know it sounds almost oxymoronic to post this on an anime forum, but anyone out there love to listen to some of those old timin' christian church hymns? If so, tell me which titles you feel are your favorites.

By the way, I'm not talking about songs like you would find on CD's like Songs For Worship.

My personal favorites are The Old Rugged Cross, At Calvary, and Amazing Grace.

While not precisely on topic, Gimme That Ol' Time Religion, as featured in Inherit the Wind, was one of the few Church songs that really felt profound to me, especially in the context of the film.

And yes, Amazing Grace is a good one.

There's an album of a group of young fundamentalist Baptist preachers-in-training located in Hammond, Illinois, I believe, that's called the Heritage Quartet. I got it not too long ago, and though they only have one of my favorite titles, The Old Rugged Cross, their renditions on other songs and creations of their own, have a lot of elements of old, like no other instruments other than an acoustic guitar and a piano. They sound awesome, including this guy that can put out monstrously high notes with his voice. And all the notes this quartet have not a flaw in my book. I can tell you right now they put those boy-bands to shame any day :D.

BTW, isn't there already another group of older men that is called the Heritage Quartet?

No idea, I don't follow Church Hymns.

I'm more the type who listens from a culturally interested point. The few churchy songs I have reside next to Buddhist meditation mantras, Hindu prayers, Zen Buddhist flute songs, Arabic belly dance music, native american chants, you get the idea.:)

More like a "listen to this music because it just sounds good", eh? Got it.

Mmm, a little, but more like a 'listen to the music because I enjoy learning about other cultures'.

I find that Gregorian chants are kind of relaxing, but my all time fave Church song is Ave Maria. Lacrimosa and other Latin songs are great too... As for more recent songs I love Shout to the Lord and Refiners Fire
