WARNING: One of your hard drives exceeds maximum temperature!

I have two programs(SpeedFan and HDD Temperature) that both say that my hard drive temperature is 215 degrees celcius and it's been fluctuating around that temp. Is this really possible? I even opened the computer and touched the top of the hard drive and my finger would have melted if that were really true. My cpu temp is fine, it's around 55 degrees(a bit higher than I would want...) But, I'm more worried about the hd right now. Are there any better programs I should check out? Could it be a virus telling me this?

Edit: I'm just going to buy a hard drive cooling fan(http://vantecusa.com/p_hdc_502a.html) and a new heatsink/fan for the cpu. And probably a new case later on when I got more fundage. I still think it's really weird that it is getting those readings from the hard drive, though.

I don't think harddrives have any built-in thermometres, so I'm guessing programs that tell you their temperature are bogus and probably spyware.
    I could be wrong though.

SOME hi8gh end HDDs from Maxtor and Western digital and others have integrated temp diode, 215... maybe is in liquid form it'll be possible

SpeedFan isn't spyware. Not sure how it can tell your HD temp though.. I find it harder to believe that a HD could get up to 215..

I blame it on Compaq.. I should have just built my computer. The hard drive is a Samsung, so I kind of doubt that it does have a thermometer.. The case is pretty small also and has only one fan on the back(excluding the cpu fan and power supply one). And it's an Athlon 2600, these temperatures really aren't healthy for Athlon. I'm just going to get a new heatsink and fan for the cpu and save up for a Scorpio case with many fans. Crap, it says the temperature right now is 67 degrees and my cpu fan, actually all the fans in my computer weren't running, I had to switch them back on with speedfan @__@

    Please use PNG

I'm going to take a second here to pound the pulpit for my favourite image file format.

JPG is nice for photographs, but really sucks for shots of grey computer software. PNG is the way to go. Note how That Guy's pic from the last post is totally blurred.. that's a result of JPGs lossy compression.

PNG on the other hand is lossless. PNGs of photographs have a larger filesize than their JPG equivalents, but PNG pics of programs running take up less disk space than JPGs and are crisper. Compare my attachment (shot of the same thing). Bigger, totally crisp, but with one fourth of the file size.

    PNG, the crispmaker!

Thanks for the word MO, I'll be sure to use that file format from this day forward when posting pics like that!

I made a temporary fix to the cpu problem, I threw in a Thermaltake Silent Boost fan/heatsink and put some Arctic Silver 3 on the cpu. The temp is down to around 47, it was about 32 earlier but it's been going up. Compaq sure does make it hard as hell to take out a motherboard, my hands got sliced up from the operation. The heatsink/fan is a huge beast compared to my last one too.
