Ok, let's keep the flame wars to a minimum here, I'm curious as to which OS most of you guys are using... if you want to comment, comment on the GOOD points of an OS, not on why Windows or Linux sucks, k?

I got XP. Right now it's Home Edition....but yeah, maybe seen I'll go Pro. I like it because...well...it looks good, and...let's see. Oh yeah, I didn't have as many networking difficulties as I did with 98. It's pretty stable (for me) and I haven't had many problems with it.

XP here. I'd look into Linux but at this point, if something screwed up, I'd be screwed beyond belief. Not to mention I need to get around to clearing up hard drive space before considering adding a second OS.

Win 98 in the Hizouse! Seriously, though, the only problem i have with 98 is um...Well, no, thats hardware...thats a lack of ram...thats a crappy video card...The only real problem i have is that the os crashes for no apparant reason. Then i get the Blue Screen Of Doom. Then i curse.

I'm outdated, too, running under Win98SE...

Benefits: The OS flys with loading times on my monster mahcine
Drawbacks: That same flying sometimes causes explorer to crash right out

As for other comments, it's not the hardware...it's just that Every OS Sucks. :p

XP/2000 next time I'm willing to lay out cash...

    lol

If you're careful with the cache settings Win98 can be made 'reasonably' stable.. (set max and minimum both to 2x your physical ram for a start and see if it helps).. And if you're a student, you can pick up the student version of WinXP Pro for $100, not too bad of a deal.

You gotta love the student discounts. I can get Macromedia software extremely cheap, along with Photoshop. Very fair prices, far better than anything I could have hoped for.

lol 2 days ago I picked up my copy of Macromedia Studio MX, for $199. It's got a nice solid 387 page manual with it, but the fact that they didn't give me a jewel case for the cd is vaguely annoying.

Yes, that is a good start. And a regular defrag seems to cut the frequencies as well, but never completely... :)

For a poll like this, you really need to let me choose more than one. I have XP pro, 98 SE and Xandros Linux on my system. I use XP the most though

Got a free copy of XP at a microsoft lecture at school here, made me feel better about the pirated copy I already had. I keep 98 around for those apps that don't run in XP (there are some).

Linux is on there cause I need to get used to it for school, and would love to switch someday. I'm just not as comfortable with it yet though

I used to triple boot XP, BeOS, and Debian Linux, but I used XP the most... for the purposes of the poll, just vote for the operating system you use most :) I should've been a bit more clear on that, sorry.

    2k/XP

    I voted XP..cause it's basically a prettier version of 2k :)

I'm currently using Win XP Pro with the latest Service Pack..and it's certainly the fastest and most stable version of windows I've ever come across. Only real difference beetween xp and 2k is that XP likes to hide some of the more 'advanced' user features..even in the pro version

Also..old dos games and XP don't mix well. Even with all compatibility modes set. I still use the ol 'slugger' (P166) for some abandonware titles. ;o

How so? C'mon Sly..backup your opinions with hard solid facts. :)

I really want to know why people think '2k ownz XP haha rofl n0ob!!1¬'

They're practically the same OS. Or do people seem to think by saying win2000 is better, they immediately have mad l33t computer techie skillz :p

I've got Windows XP running on mine, and it hasn't frozen since I installed it!! It feels so great... 98 froze on me constantly even when I defragged the hard drive often. I still have my computer reset for no apparent reason when I'm trying to burn cd's though... But it isn't as bad anymore since I formatted

hasn't froze on me since i updated IE to ie6. the only reason it freezes now is because of the laptop progs(mainly the battery amount prog)
    my pc hasn't froze because of windows in forever....and it's a pentium 1 133....
