    Overclocking*
    I say, first of all
I can bet you don't have an overclocking motherboard
first get an Abit Nf7-S revision 2.x (not the NF7-S2) and we can start talking
Athlons are a very good OC chip, though it can be frustrating at times like with all cpus

Golden Rule of Overclocking - If you're not sure what you're doing, don't.

Overclocking can seriously damage your system if you aren't careful, so I suggest you do your share of research and proceed to it slowly at first, if at all. After all, you don't want to cook your circuits, do you? ^^

Yes, AMDs are very favored by overclockers, because many of the chips can be pushed well ahead of the factory setting.

"MSI" alone doesn't tell much. What is the model?

4- MSI suck for overclocking I had there top of the line for AMD cpus, and it was so limited and crappy

...and if you are gonna clock your AMD, use BIG cooling fans or get the lean, clean, water cooling system.

If you now don't want to use a water cooling system, I suggest you to get a rather "big-spaced" chassi, and put like 3-4 case fans with a BIG Cpu fan.

2600+ is a pretty good processor. why would you want to overclock it?

sounds like you have a Barton core Athlon, or if you don't know what the heck is a barton, just don't try OC, I have personally seen CPUs and Motherboards fry, and the performance differrence is null unless you pull off a 30~40% overclock

a 2600+ is perfectly good as is. I would advise against overclocking in your case.

I tend not to bother with it at all.. the performance gains are incremental, and come with loads of extra heat. I could buy a chip with loads better performance than my current one for very little money.. why futz with overclocking?

I consider Overclocking as a risky task. It's worth only if your processor is "out of date", but generally, you should be satisfied with the processor that you hold currently.
