People that are afraid of an open mind this could pertain to every individual on the earth, but some of us are willing to open our mind and stop and put a differences a side to listen to others people's viewpoints and yet a lot of us remain closed minded for the reason of fear. The fear that follows the truth of knowing yes knowing how people think, how they feel, how they act, but yet this isn't only to emotions it deals with those that changed the world there thoughts helped the world in a positive or a negative way yet they followed with a open mind and many people afraid of change rejected them. Yet they persisted on with a open mind a open mind that is rare quality to come across one of thinking of all thoughts thinking of a person equal no matter what they look like or act like is a case of having a open mind. Well what im trying to get at is what is the reason people fear an open mind.I will put my thought up later i want to see all of yours first.

    Why?

People are afraid of openminds because some people dont want to hear the truth. They've known something a certain way for so long that when it comes out to be nothing, they lose. If there were more openminded people, perhaps this world would b a little better off.

That's the longest phrase that I've read in the Philosophy forum :p

Anyway, it's 'people that are afraid of an open mind' or Why are we afraid of an open mind? Think about it, who are the ones with an open mind? I keep telling that this planet is flat but no one believes me :p

[EDIT]Sorry. We, humans, never accept the truth so easily, unless we are looking for it.

Your first post became such a chore to read, I ended up simply not reading most of it.

Anyway, keeping an open mind is good, but only to a certain degree. Eventually you become niave if you're open too much.

I dunno I always figured it best to keep an open mind on things. I mean thinkk about it aren't most of the problems we have in this world brought about by people refusing to really listen to each other, I mean really listen.

Neph you have a point but I'd rather be a little niave then stubborn.

As long as you never get so niave that you think rubbing yourself with a fake glass gem will cure you better than professional medical treatment, whatever.

It's good to be open-minded. I don't like when people try to throw their beliefs at me and not listen to what anyone else has to say. I think some may be close minded out of being scared, but some are just that way because it's how they are naturally. I don't try to throw my opinion out there and not listen to any others. When people do that it makes me feel like they think they know it all and that they have all the answers. It's also not good to believe in everything you are told either. For example if someone told me a deer was really a fish. . .Well I just know the difference ;)

But, what if the deer was actually a fish.. and your mind was just playing tricks on you? Now that would suck. I agree with what Neph says, you need to have an open mind but you can't be naive. If there was a high correlation seen in research studies proving that fake glass gems can cure, then yeah.. you can believe it. But, then you have to question what kind of research was used to prove this claim, was it biased or flawed perhaps?

There's a lot to think about when you want to keep an open mind. It's difficult, but hey, philosophy is "love of knowledge" so part of it is not knowing what's real, what's true, whether that leprechaun on your shoulders that tells you to burn things is real or not, etc. It takes a lot of mental processing.. but it's fun when you get used to it ;)

Oh, but what is real m'lad? When I see you, I don't see you. I see light bouncing off of you into my eyes. And you think yourself solid? Consider the gaps in between all your various atoms. And then consider what's in there. And then in there... reality just stops. There's nuffin.

    Ok, enough rambling. :p

Um, Actually you only see his words on the computer screen. He may not be the age he states, or the gender he has told us, but we see this as truth, even if it may not be true. Truth isn' about logic, it's about assumptions. Heck, not even logical assumptions...

But, consider him as waves, instead of blocks of matter. And then in there... reality is infinite
Do you know if they actually have met? This can be applied to the 'real world' too. How do you know that information about other people. We need to believe in something, but if we can't trust our senses, what's left? Reason...?
