ok, that's a good utility and there are many like this over the internet. I know about a good standalone program but I don't remember it's name now, I'll check.

Conclusion: Run it, it's ok, but you should look for something better if security is very important to you.

Yep. Security is very important for you.

I'd say the latest spysweeper is the best utility for detecting spyware.

Um... how should I interpret that?

    a) I tend to prefer "spybot search and destroy" myself, totally free

    b) I tend to prefer "spybot search", and destroy myself, totally free

Now you got me confused :p

OK here's the non-spam (hey! actually it was an on-topic joke) post.

I haven't used that online thingy. But I've used Ad-aware, and "Spybot S&D". I've also used "Hijack this". Hijack this is a VERY GOOD process logger and stuff. I've seen forums where you give your hijack-this log and the ppl tell you if you got spyware on your machine.

As for me... since I used Mozilla Firefox, I haven't got any more problems with spyware.

It didn't get the "Firefox - the browser you can trust" motto for anything, uknow ;-)

You will find that many Spyware detectors will find and clean out stuff that the others didn't find. There are a number of good freeware spyware detectors out there, many now including "Shield" options that work similar to how Anti-Virus Auto-Protect does.

www.spychecker.com has a good assortment of mini-reviews for the software out there, some commercial, some shareware, and some freeware. Have a look:
    http://www.spychecker.com/software/antispy.html

I personally run 3 Spyware removal programs at the moment: Ad-Aware, Spyware Blaster, and Spybot - Search & Destroy.

Dunno about spysweeper. I've known a couple people around here who've been convinced/tricked into paying for it (while other choices are free). They've both gone back to adaware and spybot search and destroy.

Users aren't always the best judge of software (MO mutters about more than 90% of surfers using Internet Explorer) but a quick look at cnet user ratings puts adaware at 87 percent approval, spybot at 85 and spysweeper at 72. I've been happy with the first two myself.

Though for obvious reasons I don't use any of them anymore. project191, the more of your threads in the computer forum I read, the happier I am that I don't use windows anymore :D Good luck!
