The easiest thing to do is to go to here:

    http://download.com.com/3000-8022-10214379.html?tag=lst-0-2

Download that program, called Ad-Aware. It's free, so don't worry about paying for anything.

    Install it and update it.

What's nice about this program is that it rakes through your computer and looks for those registry hacks, files, and processes (though I don't think it's the BEST at finding processes), etc. that have to do with ad-popups and such. You then have the choice to delete those things.

I run it once a week. Usually 5x and up. Try it. Love it. It's Swedish. You have to.

Or alternatively, there's Spybot Search & Destroy. That one has an "Immunize" option you can enabled to effectively block Spyware after you've cleaned it all out. Similar to the Antivirus Auto-Protect idea.

Or you could get hijackthis but it's a rather advanced program, to know what is a "good" file or "bad" file.
