As painful as it is to admit it, I'm betting that at least some of us here have been caught up in the Pokemon card frenzy.

So out with it. How avid of a battler were you? Did you use them for battle at all, or did you just collect and trade them with others who were suckered into the trend? About how many did you have in all?

Me? I was a *HUGE* fan of Pokemon, but you've gotta keep in mind that I was about ten or eleven years old when it was really huge, so I didn't really understand the implications of a "useless temporary fad" very well yet. I collected cards left and right, heck, if you add together all the money I spent on those cards I could probably by myself half a PS2... maybe more o_O.

I never really battled with 'em, though, I basically just tried to collect the rarer ones to show off to my friends (and also in hopes that someday I could sell them off and get rich). Unfortunately I waited until it was too late, and by that time there were literally thousands of Pokemon card collectors who were ready to throw in the towel, which meant very few buyers. I've still got the collection hidden in the back of my closet somewhere.

*shrudders* HORRIBLE memories. i was crazy over Pokemon. i didn't know how to play the game, but i didn't care, all i wanted to do was collect cards. i got a Charizard card once in a booster pack and i was so happy because it looked cool. since i was young and didn't know that the card was rare this older punk kid traded it with me with 2 others cards saying that the cards he was giving me was better, but they were fake cards! and also he stole my second best card behind my back. *cries* and this person was like 5 years older than me too. not so good memories i have being little. i need a hug. i now hate Pokemon...but i like Pikachu though, because he's just bada**.

I did have Pokemon cards when I was like in 3rd grade and I just collected them and traded them I didn't even know how to play. AS sad as it may sound I still have ALL of those cards  Don't get me wrong... I don't collect them or trADE THEM any more.. I'm just keeping them because they will be worth Alot of money*CHING! CHING!* when I'm older. So if you still have the I advise you to keep them. :anime:

Well, lemme see... I bought a few packs when the trend was just getting hot - right after the original Base Series First Edition packs had all sold out. I remember my first pack actually had a foil Charizard in it - sold it for $30, heh. After that, I began picking up packs occasionally and reselling the rare cards. I made at least some profit at it, not sure how much, and I sometimes played with all the leftover cards.

I was never a really serious player, though - I never did the tournament scene or anything like that, although I did hit a TCG Tour Day at a nearby mall once for the hell of it. (W00t, free prerelease cards. XD) I still have a mess of cards that I never sold; a few favorites (a Japanese Mew holo, which I got out of a $3 pack at a con, and which was lots of fun to brandish at other people) and some promos I got for free from the local card store.

Man, do people even purchase those things anymore? I'd love to dispose of my collection, but I'd have no idea where to sell it.

And wing_goddess, I share your pain. I remember once when I was fairly new to the TCG, I thought Charmander and Eevee were absolutely adorable, and that Blastoise was, well, not. You can imagine what happened when somebody offerred to trade a Charmander AND an Eevee for my holo Blastoise. >_>

Bought a full box when it first came out and when I was still pretty active in Card Games. Had the whole first set minus about 2 foils - later filled in those holes.

I remember seeing glimpses of it months before when it was previewed with Japanese card snapshots. It looked interesting, and RPG-like.

Turned out to be far more simpler than it looked. My purchased box was all boosters, so for a few days I was without rules and didn't know how to play. I made up my own for a day or two - the funny thing is, my rules almost matched the real ones when I finally grabbed a starter for them.

Played for about half a year, stopping when the third set (what was it called? Fossil?) came about - and also when the game started suffering from the same thing the anime did - they covered pretty much everything, but kept going besides.

I've never played in an official tournament for anything, but I had a few good runs in my circle of friends. Now my acquired cards are molding around my apartment here somewhere. :p

You could try eBay, but I doubt you'd have much luck Pokémon was so popular that, like us, everyone who's ever played now has more cards than they need, want, or can sell. XD

Sometimes I try to get rid of mine at garage sales. I've sold a lot of commons that way, actually - people will happily plunk down a few dollars for a brick of cards to shut their kids up. XD

    Heh.

I'm betting you won't be able to find them later. Hehe.

Anyway, I really used to want Pokemon cards. But, I'm glad my parent's didn't buy me any cards, because I didn't get all that obsessed when my uncles/aunts bought me them. I have some good cards, that I hope will be worth something someday. :)

I still feel stupid for trading Lugia for a [what's it called?] Bellosum? Yeah, it was holographic, japanese version. I'm not sure whether it was a smart trade, but [whatever that pokemon was] was really cute! Hehe.

I owned quite a few, and knew how to battle. I mainly bought them so that I could brag to my brothers, and beat them in battles(if I could). Wigglytuff was my favorite one to use. :anime: My brother was way more into it than I was. If he stacked all his cards up, he had about 18 inches of them. He kept them all in card cases, and would constantly scream about them getting bent or scratched. I think my cards are in my closet as well. I gave most of my better cards away to my brothers as Christmas presents.

I don't know how many others can say this truthfully, but I'm 100% Pokemon free! No cards, no DVDs, no plushies, and I don't watch the show anymore . I had Magic: The Gathering to keep me out of the cards, I still have yet to buy a plushie, and I spend my money on more valuable DVDs. (Like the Saber Marionette J Ultimate Collection)

Like said before, my involvement in Pokemon consisted of a 23-streak with a 10 dollar Haymaker deck that won me.. more than 10 dollars. ;)

Ugh..Pokemon cards...I wasted so much time and money on them. If I got back all the money from both Magic and Pokemon, I probably would have more than a thousand or so for me to use on anime. All the time spent playing the game and stealing from other kids in my class...well, that time was well spent, sharpening up my stealing/charism(sp) skills.

Now, I hate those cards game so much...
