Saber Marionette Ponta Kuns

Just had a thought today. (MILD spoiler for J)











If the ponta's mother is a huge Godzilla-like creature and her cubs number at least 20-30 (possibly more), will they all grow up into similarly huge monsters who will terrorize Terra Two?

Question: Ignoring the kiddie Ponta-kuns for a bit,do we ever see a male adult Ponta? And how come we never see any "adolescent" Pontas?

Actually,one thing that bothers me about this line of inquiry is that,if it goes a certain way,one wonders about the necessity of the mother Ponta. The little Pontas seem to be the show's "mascot" of sorts,like the Chocobo in FF,and the mother was some kinda cheap Godzilla-esque gag. Which seems kinda pointless to me...

InuYasha - but does this even matter from a plot perspective?

Actually,Matt's Crocodile Hunter bit,funny as it was,reminded me of a legitimate question. Aside from the pontas,does Terra 2 have any other unusual native species?

I could just see someone making a fic about this...

But wait! In JtoX ep 7, didn't that lil Ponta-kun said that one of her childs were missing (remember the cub was hanging on the cliff?)? I wonder. If the one that was counting her cubs were the mom, then I think only cetain Ponta grows up into a Godzilla monster.

Maybe Dr. Hess secretly feels bad for being such a ****er for most of the show, so he gives them anti-growth hormones to keep them little 'n' c00t. Either that or momma ponta had a rare and entirely somatic genetic defect that caused her to mutate into godzilla. Hey, where's the creator to comment on this?? Oi, Akahori! INquiring minds wanna know!

Maybe the momma ponta is like thousands of years old and the Terra II used to be mainly populated by ponta's but one of those huge plasma storms that almost happened in J Again wiped them out. And there was only one ponta left which reproduced asexually... and the ponta's can't reproduce and are little chibi things for like 700 years but then grow into enormous beasts that shoot fire ^_^

My head hurts LOL. Can we just chalk it up to one of those things in SMJ that defies explaination, like why Hanagata speaks a lot of Engrish or why Otaru looks like a pure clone of Iyesu?

Hm...oh! In related news, I looked back through my SMJ character sketches today (they can be found in the film books) and noticed that Mom ponta has a large pouch that holds several of her cuter cubs. I wonder if that means anything, aside from the fact that ponta may be classifiable as a marsupial.

OK here goes my theory.

The ponta monster is a lonely mutated specimen, who found a little orphan ponta and adopted him.

Or how about if the monster already had its cub, but then something happened that made her mutate?

Dunno. I like the first theory more. Because obviously, there's this ponta village in the forest with all these little tiny funny-looking cat-like marsupials who love fish. :3

I tend to favor the first theory. Because the pontas have a rather high intelligence (Like the glass-wearing Ponta in ... what was it, JAgain? I don't remember where i saw it. But he looked SO funny! It was the chapter where Otaru goes w/o his marionettes to sabotage a gartland war machine and blocks a plasma cannon with a giant male contraceptive? (ROFL!) I've been looking for this chapter, but i think it's neither SMJ nor JtoX. Is it J Again?

OH, i think i'm going off topic. If the pontas are so smart... having a monster with almost null intelligence doesn't quite fit.

Anyway... i really love pontas. They're so kawaiii!!!

*sigh* I wished they came out more in the series. Like after a funny scene, a Ponta coming out from the top of the screen and switching the scene as he falls down. Or perhaps turning the page... what do you think? BWAAAAAAAAAA!!! I want more pontas!!!!!!

Imagine this. Ponta greeting cards! SMJ birthday cards... Ponta stuffed dolls for the kids! (and when you squeeze them they say "meow meow!" The adventures of ponta-kun videogame!

Man, there's such a big market for those little critters!

 

Not having seen J to X, I think I'm at a slight handicap, but I reckon there are more Pontas than the ones you see in the series. Maybe there's like about a dozen of them spread all over Terra II, they live to be very old, and reproduce very rarely. Maybe there is often only one female per generation, or maybe there is one who acts like a nanny, and she looks after all the cubs. Hmmm.
