    Hi Ben,

I think he tried to post to the group's files section first and for some
reason it didn't work. I doubt there would be any splitting off, it's just
that they want a place to share files.

Personally I just don't see that "Sound Creature" is ever going to become
an official release in the USA. If it did, I for one, would gladly shell
out for a CD version with the notes and book in English even if we do get
this translating done and rip the audio to mp3.
As it is, I just located a copy of the vinyl sans booklet and I'm buying
it, the first vinyl I've bought in about 10 years and paying way too
    much.And I'd still want a CD version.

I certainly can't see the harm in posting a translation of the text.
Sharing more mp3's from it...well that's maybe a little hazy. I can see
your point. If John wants to say no mp3 sharing here, I'd understand.
There are other venues for sharing mp3's for those who want to, and I don't
think it's going to split up the list in any way.

    BTW,
I've been asking around for a translator and I've gotten a couple of
leads... so if everyone puts in an effort, it might just happen.

Why? Don't you have a decent record player?

I can see both sides of this.

If there was a CD out, I would by it just to support it, but... GOOD LUCK!

As far as Vinyl - that depends.

Personally, with a good enough record player, good condition vinyl (no scratches), and
a record cleaner (assuming that the vinyl has noise & dirt on it), you can get a sound
that is better then any CD player. "Period." (This is also according to my friend David).

The catch is that the record cleaner can cost $420-$680 easily, and the record player
should cost at least $500+. I have heard SCD & DVD-A compared to good vinyl. Good
vinyl beats the DVD-A. (Which is compressed anyway).

P.S. There _are_ advantages to digital, but then, this discussion is getting off Tomita &
therefore off topic, so I think I'll just be quiet now. <grin>

Hi Ben, I repect your comments - but I think that Mike's reply pretty much says it all.

    Let me comment quickly below.

Correct. In fact, I am not making my own Tomita website, or "split group" (goodness
    NO!) or anything else.

I simply got tired of trying to email the file around. It was/is a 1 time deal.

I couldn't say it any better.

Harm, no. But would it help things? I think so.

The record companies would laugh if you asked them to do anything with this.
And besides, it's not even music! An old instruction manual for "dead synths" like the
Moog modular? Who would even care about that? (Now, Britney Spears on the other
    hand...)

Well, we in the minoraty disagree. Even if we asked Tomita himself for help (to translate
it) it would cost him money, effort, and then who would print it?

This is going to have to be a fan effort.

Personally, I few it as a dedicational to Tomita's life and work.
In an interview, he said that people should still experiment with the old synths.
We are bringing something that would be considered "dead" by others who don't see the
    value back to life.

I would like to say a special thanks to Mike, and every one else who has helped push
this project forward. (And the wonderful official Tomita website that lead me to this
    group).

P.S. As far as posting MP3, thats still up for a vote.

I just hate records, always did, even way back when digital just meant
    a wristwatch with red LED's.....
This is just a personal thing, please let's not get into the CD vs.
    Vinyl debate here...please please please.
