Get a load of this. ^_^ Not my words, but what do you guys think?

    Grow More Pot!
Now many of you probably went into this post because of what the title may suggest. However this is not about why we need to smoke pot.

We've had a problem dealing with cutting down tree's for awhile in the united states. About us guzzling down fuel every day and where will our natural resources be in a couple of years. The answer my friend is simple: Grow More Pot!

You can make four times as much paper from one acre of hemp plants as you can from an acre of trees. And instead of chopping down all the redwoods in the country and turning the Calififornia, Oregon and Washington and Appalachia into the Sahara Desert, if you do it with hemp plants, you can just grow another crop a few months later and make more paper! At one-quarter the cost of making paper from wood pulp and only one-fifth the pollution. The ancient Romans grew it, Henry VIII made each farmer in England grow their share, because they knew if you want the strongest natural fiber there is, you have to go out and grow more pot!

Guess what Levi jeans were originally made out of? And guess what American flags used to be made out of? And guess what the early drafts of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution were written on? Guess what you can use to power a car? You can get at least four times as much cellulose to make gasohol or methanol from hemp stems as you can from a corn stalk. Which along with solar energy would be a great way to avoid dying for oil in Saudi Arabia.

In the 1920s and 1930s most American cars and farm machinery had the option of running on gas or on methanol; most racing cars still do run on methanol. And George Washington and Thomas Jefferson grew cannabis on their plantations and smoked it, too!

In the 1760s in the American colonies you could even be jailed for not growing pot! Because that was part of the key to becoming economically independent from Britain. Hemp was legal tender in the Americas, a substitute for money, from 1630 clear up to the early 1800s. And hemp seeds are a great source of protein, better than soybeans, and it's cheaper than soybeans, too.

Marijuana can be used medicinally too! It can be used to treat glaucoma and pain caused by cancer, and you can digest more protein from a hemp seed than a soybean seed. It's even shown some signs at being able to combat herpes. And, guess what kind of a parachute Mr. Drug War himself George Bush Sr. used when he bailed out of that bomber in World War II?

So it's simple, drug traffcing, a majority of crime, and enviromental problems could all be solved if we simply GROW MORE POT!

I say we make it legal, that way we can tax its sale and the country could give more money back to the people! That, and the possession of it would no longer be a crime, so prison space would be opened up. Sure, we get a few druggies, but look at all the benefits!

your forgeting one thing.. the Hemp plant is a sister plant of sorts to the pot plant (same species anyway). You cant get high off hemp. Just so ppl dont get confused.

But yes growing hemp for more paper and whatever is a great idea.. the Government on the other hand wont buy it cause they would loose all that money they make on the lumber companies.. Thousands would loose there jobs..

Its just all stupid government as to why they dont grow hemp on a mass scale.

To be simple, that's a load of balls. You don't smoke hemp (unless you're stupid), although in my opinion, there are better things to do than smoke anything, but that's another story.
I don't know about in the USofA, but a few years ago here in the Great White North there was this big fad with hemp-based products, everything from backpacks to jewelery. The stuff never really caught on when people realized that their new bracelets looked like *** and they could get a stronger material out of something synthetic. And of course prices were higher too. And given what I've studied in economics, they would likely stay that high unless some kind of price ceiling was imposed, but then no growers would grow the plant as a result, and that would result in less supply, resulting in higher prices. And then some cheaper alternative would emerge, and people would buy that, and all the hemp-growers would be saying "ah, nuts!", or whatever exclamation of annoyance hemp-growers use.
Of course, I doubt this thread would have ever even seen the light of day if a related species was not a controlled substance.

actually, some hemp products do look rather neat and last a long time. case in point: my boyfriend has a pair of hemp sandles. they look nice and took about 5 years to wear down to how they are now; conformed to his feet. they don't burn(when i met him, someone was trying to set them on fire while he was wearing) and it's amazing the abuse they can take.
just saying that it's alot tougher stuff that credit has given.

There's a hemp products store around here, but I never got around to checking it out.

Yeah, hemp is pretty cool, but I'm against marijuana.
