Has anyone here ever tried to get their stuff printed? I'm looking at the Tokyopop "Rising Stars" contest and the specs are pretty scary to look at. Mostly two things actually.

    1) 600 DPI bitmapped TIFF images measuring at 8.5"X11"
    2) Screentone

Most I ever did was 150 dpi and I've never even seen actual screentone. Any thoughts?

alright furryB, I got some info. I scan at 600DPI all the time and it is insanely easy. Tiff is also easy to do if you have photoshop. any way they only want it at 600 so that it will appear as higher quality. And as far as screentones go, there are tons of websites where you can order em, the one thatcomes to mind for me is Comictones.com, its really good and has a large variety of tones. As far as using tones, which I have never done, according to my understanding they are clear sticker like things that have little dots of ink printed on em and u peel these off, stick em to ur manga and cut off the excess bits and then you press it down with some sort of object like an eraser or a piece of wood or something to keep the tone from coming off, because I am not too sure about how well they stick. Also you can go around google and look up screen tone tutorials or Zip tone as they are called. I hope that was helpful and good luck getting your manga printed, maybe I should try... That would rule!

Thanks for the help. I don't have any problems scanning in at 600. Main problem is inking. Currently looking into using illustrator for it but the program always felt wierd to me. I'm also thinking it might be good for creating screentone. Not too sure on that though.

I looked into that contest, and I would enter but the deadline is soo soon, too bad for me.... I hope you win 1st place furryB, because your art is most excellent! Good luck

Yeah. I wasn't planning on going for that deadline. I was planning for their sixth one. 15-20 pages is a nightmare to do in three weeks and that's about when I found out. Thankfully, I'm very patient. :p

Well, now you should now how important Manga stars such as Ken Akamatsu, feel. If you've seen his mangas you would know, if you haven't check out these titles and you will see:

    A.I. Love You (8 Volumes)
    Love Hina (14 Volumes)
    Magister-Negi-Magi(14 Volumes)

(what the heck this has to do with his question o_O? -saber)

I suggest to print in equal DPI the program is working at (photoshop, ex)
resize both to 600dpi/300 or whatever/ and happily print, I notice
    marginally better quality

Hmm. Didn't know the last one was fourteen volumes. As for drawing in that huge size, I found that my comp slows down too much past 300. I'm thinking it might work better to look towards a vector based program. Illustrator has always been a pain for me though. :dizzy2:
