Project I've been working on for some time now is in the Beta stage. It is a complete remake of the classic game from Origin set in the Wing Commander universe: Privateer. (Sort of an RPG in space: you take missions and upgrade your ship instead of your stats)

All the ships, systems and campaign missions are in there. Some of the art is placeholder art until we can get something better. There are soms balance issues too, but that is why it is a beta.

In the off chance anyone would like to test it out, send an email to privater@spamno.gmail.com (remove the spamno)

The more feedback the better so we can move quickly to a final release!

We are in open beta now. Visit our site to download the latest beta and post bugs. 1.0 should be out before the end of the year. We are currently in feature freeze and tweaking a few last things before we ship it out so if there are any bugs left we would need to know!

Sorry for the thread necromancy :D

I tried it out! I like the ability to use the mouse, it reminds me of Freelancer. It looks kind of funny having a ship with great graphics and having the backgrounds a bit pixelly, but that's a nostalgia factor I guess.

I'm going to have to do some smuggling runs to get more money.. Hopefully you guys didn't program in a Star Destroyer to come out after me :D

Nah, none of those lol. Just the occasional Stiletto or Broadsword or Paradigm. You can outrun the latter two fairly easily though. If you get scanned, dump that cargo hehe.

I've always been a fan of joysticks in flight games; I use one for playing the remake and find it a bit easier than the freelancer style. Either way gets a little easier when you can afford autotrackers though ;)

Pixelated backgrounds are a bit unavoidable hehe. In newer releases we default to having the bases not display full screen, so they aren't as stretched. A couple people have started work on replacement background art, but none have gotten farther than a single base and I don't want to replace any until I can replace them all to preserve consistency.

Anyway, it was always the gameplay that attracted me. Give the campaign a shot when you've beefed up your ship a bit :)
