hmm, my only comment is the handle stick, I think it'll be hard to handle?
I fell it will keep slipping off my hand :p

But this is sweet, this means PS2's price will drop down and I'll be able to by me one instead of the one we allready have, which has been messed-around by my brother :p
I couldn't play my favorite games anymore :(

I've heard a rumor that their not going to call it the Playstaion 3, but they'll be giving it a more flashy name, cause Microsoft have named their new console the Xbox 360.
Don't know what to say about how it looks, if that even is th real PS3, i've seen a fair few different versions. If that is what it looks like, then i have to say that i don't like its appearance :( .

The revealed specs for PS3 just blow away what the 360 has to offer. I'm wondering if I would have to be shelling out as much as I would for a fully decked PC for these next-gen consoles? Only time will tell, it seems. I'm willing to wait out the PS3 over the 360, though.

Check out the amazing footage on the PS3 killzone demo. IGN has a feed up:
    http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/748/748475/vids_1.html

Leaves Doom3 and HL2 in the dust.

The new PS3 controller is hideous. It's like a boomerang and I can't imagine it being comfortable. I don't like hearing "Cell Processor" and "Emotion Engine" because that just reminds me of good ol' "Blast Processing" from the Sega Genesis.

Ultimately I dislike Sony consoles (and its handheld) very much due to shoddy construction and an unnerving amount of bad parts (lasers failing; tiny screens getting huge numbers of dead pixels; disks being eaten). Tote specs around all you want; I'll believe it's a quality console when it's out, part failure isn't regular and the games are good.

I just hope that they don't do too much of Hardware, and too little software. And yes, i too think that the controller is hideous....

Agreed. The controller has got to go - what was wrong with keeping the same design from PSX and PS2? I read that it also has a digital pad following the Microsoft Sidewinder design (in other words, angled so terribly that the left button is halfway towards where down ought to be).

But I remember chewing out Xbox when it first launched with its cumbersome controller. Microsoft was forced to create the smaller new type when it brought to console to Japan, where they have smaller hands. :)

Controllers can be changed later. But I doubt you'll see Microsoft putting out a new core on the store shelf to plug in place of the original.

The first few generations of the PS2 were terribly put together. Everybody I know who went through all that trouble to get one when it launched before the holidays has experienced laser trouble. One even had to send it to Sony twice for servicing - he's done with dealing with them now, too. Admittedly, they've gotten better since - makes me wonder if the early demand and pressure to have it out before Christmas that year from the marketing staff resulted in shoddy units.

Still, I'm never one to buy directly when things are shiny and new. Especially when it takes a while for a good selection of titles to emerge for a system and the price to drop somewhat and level off.

Well the big thing, especially when it comes to Sony, is not to buy the first wave of things that come to market. Hardware errors typically show up in that line, though in some cases (like the Sony PSP's square button having poor sensitivity) such problems will not be fixed (in the case of the square button, it's an aesthetic choice). Sony has had a poor track record with the first wave of pretty much each system that comes out in terms of hardware issues.

Microsoft isn't quite as bad and Nintendo for some reason seems to be godly with the durability of their systems (though we all know the original GBA was not the best of design choices).

We've been chatting about all this sort of thing at work (EB Games) a lot.

I chewed out the XBox originally too. I remember it still feeling alright in my hands, but disliking how friggin' huge it was. But I still can't see how anyone thought that the bizarre sex-toy Sony is calling the PS3 controller would be a good idea.

I'll be waiting to buy this for the reasons already given. The controllers use USB 2, so I wonder if they will make an extension for the Dual Shock controllers, because that new controller looks really uncomfortable.

Here's info on the Blu-ray discs that it'll be using - http://www.blu-ray.com/info/. They hold between 25 to 50 gigs, holy crap. I'm also glad that it will be backwards with both PS2 and PS1 games.

I have owned all except the PSP, and the upcoming PS3...

I haven't experienced (myself) any problems with my PS1 nor 2..
and I got my PS2 before the availability problem was fixed >.>
    and my PS2 haven't ate any CDs/DVDs/ANYTHINGs

I do realise the AV out of the PS2 is kinda crappy... but meh... it's the only thing out of all the console

I like the design very much, except for the controllers.

My own personal openion, games are becomming absurd.. specially with a new design like every year.. just like how Nokia and others bring a new cellphone model every month just to gain more money (even though it is their purpose!).

It's just "too much" if you know what I mean, sometimes they get carried away.. for example, PS1 used to be to play games on it and possible CD player.. PS2 was more enhanced than PS1, and most people don't use these additional components in it (i.e. me!).
And I still don't get the purpose of PSX and whatever things were installed in it. It looked like a gaming/computer device that you can carry everywhere.

Is this what life now? Games, games and more games??!

    Simply ridiculous

I used to use my PS2 as a DVD-player. Now I never touch it. :p What can I say? I rarely bother to play any of my games, and I have better options for CDs. So it functions as a DVD player for me, and little more. :p

Anyway I'll likely ignore it until they come out with a PS5 or something. :p Why bother?

but sometimes...i get stuck buying it myself which takes money ot of my pockets.

That is kinda true, no sooner had the PS2 finally been released here then rummors of the PS3 started to seep out about how it was already in devlopment.
I have experienced a little trouble with my PS2, mine ws part of the very first shipment to Ireland, and there was a time after about a year that it was having trouble reading the discs, this soon went, however it still have trouble reading games that are on blue disc's (e.g. Oni). I still use the dvd player since its the only one in my room and it all seemd grand now.

I hope that with the XBOX360 and PS3 the release dates of consoles are pushed farther away from each other... like 7 years minimum...

same, i just plain dont like sony - and it has like, two games i want to play, (mgs and ddr).
ps3 looks like a toaster or a scanner or something ugly like that. the controller is a double end dildo.
    meh, sony.
