Anime Question about subs/dubs???

Okay, dubs are those series which have english voice-overs. Dubbing, if you prefer its none-shorthand form. Usually, this entails unexperienced voice actors that seem to sound nothing like their character (providing you watched the sub first). Good dubs include those listed in my thread in this very same forum. You could be right about the cutting out stuff though, after a fashion. I mean, they did cut out stuff of SM and Tenchi when it aired here...but not if you get the DVD's... A good voice actor would be...Spike Speigel's voice in Bebop. A bad one...well, I always thought that Akari from Batthe Athletes wasn't too good. And Sailor Moon's late voice actors...the first was fine, but...they just kept changing her voice!!

Subs are subtitles. Voices are made by japanese seiyuu, japanese for voice actor. A LOT of people prefer these over the dubs because they stay truer to form that way...and if you have a good ear, most times you can catch jokes by way of wordplay. Di Gi Charat is a good example of such...in the "Mr. Long Hair" episode. Anyway, english or chinese or spanish or whatever language is placed at the bottom of the screen so people could understand what they're saying while still retaining the Japanese Language track. If the sub is good, or done by a major compaby, they also put titles over locations and important messages. You usually see these on building signs and important "news bulletin" scenes. If ya want a famous seiyuu, check out Megumi Hayashibara...she has multiple MULTIPLE roles...including that of a penguin.

There are two kinds of subs, fan and "pro". Fansubbed episodes are usually up for download on p2p servers like Kazaa and WinMX and can be BAD or good. As said, these are anime subbed by fans for fans. BakaMX is a good group to get subs from, and usually try to get their versions of the fansubs if they are available. Pro subs are those officially released by companies like Pioneer and Bandai. That is to say, they are not illegal. Plus, usually, they do a MUCH better job than even the best fansubbers.
