Neon Genesis Evangelion Questions about End of Evangelion

    This thread is basically a gigantic soup for all the other questions we have on the movie we seem to have here at m2a :)

    I just watched End of Evangelion and I have even more questions about it then the first time I saw it:confused: . For one thing, when they all turned into Tang:p and all the crosses appeared and then left the Earth. Where were they going? Heaven? Hell? Or just space?

    Next, why did he try and kill Asuka when he woke up on the beach?

    Why did he and Asuka both stay on Earth instead of leaving?

    Where did Kauro and Rei go. Since neither are full humans could they be part of instrumentality?

    Why could only Unit 01 be used for instrumentality? It says that 01 is the only child of Lilith. What about the rest of the Eva's?

    How does Instrumentalilty occur. What caused the second impact? IN DETAIL PLEASE.:)

    Where did Adam go? You saw him once in the series and that was it.

    How was the geo front made? Was it just the egg of lilith?

    Why are the Angels even around? What is their mission.


    Whew thats a lot of questions:eek: :eek: :dizzy2: :dizzy2:. You don't have to answer them all but please help me. :).

    I'll try to answer as much as I can (of course, don't think my answers are completely correct)...



    The souls are to be in Eva 1, they will forever drift in space. This was intended for one thing: to make the legacy of mankind survive in the stars.


    I'm not sure about Asuka, but Shinji stayed on Earth because the Instrumentality was a false paradise. He'd rather have real life with mental and physical pain than a fake paradise.



    The Angel's mission is to unite with Adam (or was it Lillith?). If that occurs, all humanity will die. There are two third Impacts,. The Destructive one (the one when the Angels unite with Adam or Lillith, as mentioned before. And a constructive one (the one showed in the movie during the instrumentality)

    Hope that cleared some things up :)

    Alright I will try to answer as much as I can....Im not stating that they will be right...just my rendition on the answers I guess you could say.

    I think they just kinda went into Limbo or what ever...becuase the Earth was re-created...so they might have been sent back...if not...then space...there all floating in space!!

    Becuase he was mad at her for something...I forget what...he couldnt forgive her for what ever she did to him.

    Becuase they both had a say in the "end of the world" they were suppost to re-desing the world....I guess you could say.


    Well lets see...Rei was absorbed and was in the Eva unit that Shinji was pioliting...I think....and Kauro was killed by Shinji.....That was like 30min before the end.

    I think that they were suppost to distroy the world so that Shinji and Asuka could redisign the world...

    Alright those are my answers...Im not compleatly possitive if they are right...but that is my understanding!

    Heh, my turn...but keep in mind that it's been a LOOONG while since I've watched EoE.

    They turned into LCL, and their souls were all merged together as one entity. Better evidence of this was Ritsuko's body getting absorbed into the bakelite/LCL after her death. They didn't really go anywhere, as they were all part of that giant sea of "Tang" as you put it. The crosses themselves signify a death, or a release of energy as that is how they are usually portrayed in the series. The floating stuff can also be considered their souls, but I believe it's just an effect to make the world's cleansing more astounding.

    In keeping with his flashback earlier in the movie, he was trying to keep Asuka from leaving. Plus he hated himself, so he took it out on her, so to speak.

    My friends and I are of the idea that people will come back if they want to. I mean, Shinji rejected the whole WORLD as being bound to the LCL...but that doesn't mean that others would want that as they would choose to stay. I believe that it was Asuka and Shinji who were the first to make the choice to stay in the original plane of existence. If you recall episode 26, Asuka is pretty much going through the same thing as Shinji and they both reach conclusions. The conclusion, I think, is that they decided to stay.


    Actually, at one point in time, they were both trying to START Instrumentality. Remember, even though Rei is a clone, she is an Angel so Instrumentality is started when she comes in contact with Lilith. The same goes for Kaworu. As far as Angels being affected by Instrumentality, we don't know what actually happens, as the humans did win. But for the sake of things, I think that they do get affected.

    This is because 01 was the only one that was found. Units 00 and 02 were manmade. 01 was actually "Lilith" and encased in the armor that is 01. Recall 01's first fight and they mention that the armor is actually only there to hold IN the true power within the Eva. The other units are also used in Instrumentality as evidenced by the Mass Production Units....but 01 is the only one able to start it off.

    As soon as an Angel comes in contact with Lilith or Adam, Instrumentality begins. As far as detail, it's when the human race became one with each other and all concious thought becomes a collective thought. Second Impact was the expulsion of power that Adam releases when he reverts back to his embryonic form. This was called an "Impact" because (I think) it was categorized as a meteor hit. That's why it was called the SECOND Impact, as the first wiped out the dinosaurs.

    I never thought that was Adam, really. They kept that in containment with the Spear, and that was actually Lilith by the end of the movie. I'm of the belief that Adam was lost in the Second Impact, as he gave a somewhat new start to humanity then, as Lilith would finish later on in Instrumentality. Rememeber, Adam's energy expulsion melted the ice caps, and killing most of the world.

    Don't quote me on this, but it was the safest place to have the Egg because it was underground in a natural and strong structure.

    As was said before, the Angels are around to start Instrumentality. As such, they'll have control over what happens, much like Shinji did when he was trapped in Unit-01. Gendo wanted to prevent this because HE wanted to control Instrumentality by merging with Rei, so he could bring Yui back.

    Remember, a LOT of Evangelion "explanations" are speculation. There's no real way to figure out what it ALL means because Anno was massively depressed while he was writing evangelion. Not to mention, he was PISSED that he had to make the movie because of FAN-natacism. A lot of what the three of us said could be true, then again, we could just be way off. The best thing to do is read what we said and draw your own conclusions.

    Also, there was this site that I always refered questioneers unto. I lost the link since my reformat, but I KNOW it's in the archives here somewhere. They dissert a lot of the Red Cross Book (a book that was on sale in theaters when EoE was out), which explained a lot of stuff. If I find my own damned link, I'll edit my post to include it...but I can't find it just yet.

    I have a few questions of my own, if you don't mind my asking...
    The "Adam" that Kaji brought from Germany(or wherever) to Gendo, and the Adam in the bible that started the human race, and the Adam that was there at the Second Impact, are they all the same? And what made the Second Impact occur? Was there two angels there, or what?

    The anwser is stated early in the movie by Misato. She said that Adam (1st angel, giant thing of light, looks like an eva) was reduced into an embryo. (causing the 2nd impact) Reducing Adam into an embryo was the safest thing to do, even though it caused the 2nd impact...because I guess it would make it a little harder for the other angels to merge with Adam....

    My question:

    Can anyone explain the meaning of the "Tree of Life"?

    The Tree of Life is the diargram that is shown quite a bit in Evangelion.

    In essence, it's the roadway to God, each branch (read: Sephiroth) is a characteristic of God.

    Most of the answers you gave me I will try and accept. But I still have my own theories. For example I now understand Second Impact and Instrimentality.

    I also just finished watching it for the third time now and if you remember when Gendo is talking to Rei he says that he has absorbed Adam so that he can see Yui again. Heh solved that one by myself:p .

    I still don't understand why only 01 is the only one able to create Instrumentality since Lilith is tied to the cross and Adam is inside Gendo. I just thought that when the armour broke it was Yui taking control.


    By the way has anybody read the manga? Its pretty disturbing especially when you first see Yui inside 01 and she's in a weird suit and has one eye. *shivers*:( The manga does answer a lot of questions though.

    Alot of questions indeed... some answers i disagree with but yet as it was said these answers are only speculated as are the following;

    They were awaiting judgement (Shinji's decision) wether or not to return to the way they were or become the one entity

    Because he was needy & ... needed someone to complain to (Understand & care for him as he put it) but seeing as the other girls (Misato & rei) Scared him he turned to Asuka... she saw through it & rejected him... & the boy snapped

    Kauro died, Rei rejoined Lilith as it's soul. during Instrumentally they became Shinji's Hope & love (Twas all pretty much metaphorical & confusing)

    Unit 01 was the only one that aquired an S2 engine/organ so therefore was complete, Unit 02 (As i think) was a clone of Adam & Unit 00... was a test type & pretty much stripped down & simplified/contructed after the whole Yui/Unit 01 incident

    You saw it twice (It was the embryo & large glowing angel in antartica) & implanted into Gendo's hand then Merged with Rei/Lilith

    Yep, someone in the series at the beggining said that they didnt know how it was constructed (Think it was Gendo)

    "Why are the Angels even around? What is their mission."

    To be the dominent species/human form & merge with lilith so as to be in there version of paradise ( :/ )
